Extremely deep WR class. But theres a # of factors that could mean we dont pick anyone of note up

  • Likely getting a new Owner and a new GM situation, no idea how this will influence their choices in hosing free agents
  • Norwell/Star impending deals means less cap room
  • Matt Kalils ridiculous contract means less cap room
  • Dont think we have much cap space, its very possible we dont sign any notable free agents this year.

Lack of OTs might mean we could possibly pick up McGlinchey or Orlando Brown if either falls to us late in the 1st.

A few predictions/wants from me

OT:

I dont see them doing anything at OT this offseason.  Williams is set and has been solid at RT.  Little Kalil isnt going anywhere this year, next year possibly he can be cut and look at OT.  Also keep in mind we drafted Moton in the 2nd this year and he has loads of potential plus the staff likes him.  We havnt seen what he can do yet.  OT seems like a need but are not in position to work on that now.

Older vets cuts:

Charles Johnson has fallen off this year.  And while I like what hes done here,  cutting him opens cap space.

Russell Shepard has been a major disappointment, cutting him opens 2.5 million

Mike Adams and Coleman, our safeties have been garbage this year and you have to think we get one early.  Cutting Adams and Coleman open 2.1 and 2.7

Ryan Kalil, he has looked good the last 2 weeks.  But with injury concerns with the age, cutting him opens 7.5 which could be a major factor in being able to resign Norwell.

Jonathon Stewart, cutting him would open 3.75, but with his age ot would be smart to extend him about 2 years and spread that $$ through his next 2 years extension

A few FA id like to see us take a hard look at

Donte Moncrief, has all the tools but has been cuffed by terrible QB play.  We wanted him in the draft. Now he would be a instant upgrade in the starting WRs now.

Aaron Lynch big athletic who is the perfect fit at 4-3 DE

Prince Amukamara- big athletic vet CB.  Our CBs are no where close to being there yet.  He comes in and starts right away.

Resign Norwell and Star, extend Olsen

Yeah I agree with this. It's a bit of a shame but our hands are tied on Kalil and as you say they drafted Moton. I actually think the draft's OT's are good value this year and they may be great value with a number of QBs going high in the draft. But basically, any OT drafted will be likely unused which isn't a great use of draft capital with other needs.

I like the idea of a veteran WR on a short-term prove-it deal. We have a young group of WR's and the draft class doesn't look brilliant. I hope they draft safety.

I don't know about DE. If we lose Peppers and CJ (which means we won the SB-yay) we will have a young pass rush with the exception of Addison. But if that happens we may have other holes too.

Please tell me you didn't just suggest that we extend Stew. The guy is done. His legs are shot. The burst is gone. Releasing him helps us in two ways. One, it saves significant cap space. Two, it keeps Rivera and Shula from playing him. I honestly think CAP would be performing at least as well if not better in his role for significantly less money.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
