Internal investigation equals cover up?

Retired Superior Court Judge Richard Boner said he could think of three reasons why the team would hire an outside firm to investigate the allegations.

Either the NFL or the team’s owner’s agreement require an investigation. Or there’s a pending civil claim against Richardson. In that case, Boner said, the team could be researching whether it should allow the case to go forward or try to settle.

“You wouldn’t do an investigation just to do it,” Boner said.

A complaint also could be filed with a government agency, such as the Department of Labor or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, said Mike Eastman, vice president of public policy for the Center of Workplace Compliance, a nonprofit. Or, Eastman said, it could be filed internally with the Panthers’ human resources department.

In either case, hiring an outside agency could reduce the appearance of bias.

Seems more to me like a civil matter, so it may lighten JR's pockets a bit but honestly who cares about that. And I doubt the league would even try to force JR out, let alone be successful doing it. NBA and Sterling is a lot different than the NFL.

Yeah, I'm just not sure how you can say that without knowing exactly what JR did....  He could've easily done something Sterling worthy and get kicked out.  Obviously, conversely, he could've done next to nothing, in which case we won't see any repercussions

Just what we need, a judge named Boner.

Given that Erskine Bowles has a stake in team ownership though, can his firm rightly be called an "outside agency"?

No one can question Erskine Bowles' integrity.  He won't F up his name for the sake of covering up anything JR did.  You better believe Erskine will be thorough and honest throughout

Whether or not I believe it doesn't matter.

You've still gotta convince 31 other teams that it was okay for you to basically investigate yourself, and it doesn't sound like they're buying it right now.

Not just "Boner"...Judge Richard (a.k.a. "Dick") Boner.  I had to Google his name to see if it was real...by God it is.  Amazing.  I'm way more floored by this name than I am the Jerry Richardson scandal.

Maybe Bowles and other part owners trying to force JR out...?

Missed that...Lord have mercy.

They'd have to have something to use against him, and honestly it sounds like there might just be something there.
