Gamecock Fans -- Just How Good is Hayden Hurst?

I basically am surrounded by Gamecock fans 24/7.  They hyped up this kid all year to me.

as a Clemson fan I only watched 2 Gamecock games the last 2 seasons.  I know SC doesn't have a great pass attack but if he was the super stud some hype him to be.....he never showed it in the Clemson games.  20ish yards a game vs Clemson the last 2 years and SC was down early both years (so the passing game was going to be looked upon).

I am not against the kid....but he definitely shouldn't be a high round pick IMO.  I agree with your assessment on round projection.  I wouldn't have him higher than a 3rd rounder.

I can understand your opinion if those are the only 2 you watched.  South Carolina’s OL has been pretty bad.  When SC faced teams with elite pass rushers, he had to stay put at the LOS on passing downs to block.  It was pretty pitiful because the game against Clemson this year the times he did run a route Bentley was under so much pressure that the pass would be no where near him.

That said I would be pretty disappointed if Carolina took him earlier than round 3, like you said.

He is a legit NFL caliber TE....will be better at the next level than he was in college.

Gamecock offense has been shaky for the most part under Muschamp (shocker). Bentley (QB) regressed this season so Hurst production took a hit because of it.

My only hang up with him is age. He will be 25 to start his rookie season.

pretty much what i think as well. He's going to drop a bit due to his age , may have 4 less football seasons that he couldve played if he was younger, its going to be a factor.

I am a Gamecock fan and I have watched Hurst a ton. Most of what needs to be said about him has been said. He's mighty good and a potential diamond in the rough. There has been so much bad about the Gamecock offense the last few years that you really can't fully gauge Hurst's capability. By necessity, he's been misused (and also consider the bumbling fool of an OC the Gamecocks have had). The age would be a double edged sword ... more maturity would probably mean a better work ethic, less chance for off field issues, etc, but downsides are obvious. I'm surprised to hear talk of him going in the first round. Second round, maybe, probably third. We'd have to think about him in the second but probably not. If he's available in the third round, we ought to get him.

He’s pretty raw at the position but he seems to be an extremely quick learner. He also has great hands and can hang onto the ball even after the big hits. The age doesn’t bother me too much because TE isn’t so restricted by age like RB ect. I don’t think he’s a first rounder, but second round heck yeah I’d take him

    • I’m really having a hard time understanding how this actually went down. -Renfrow expected to make roster as 2nd/3rd string. -Panthers cut Renfrow; Keep Brycen Tremayne, and add UDFA receiver (Dalevon Campbell) to active roster.  -Canales/Morgan say it’s totally up to Hunter whether he wants to come back or not, they would love to have him.    -Renfrow not signed to PS -Panthers trade Adam Thielen -Hunter Renfrow signed to active roster with a raise after an injury to Coker nobody heard about and is likely to start.    Our WR room is now: -Xavier Legette (2024 1st round pick) -Tet McMillan (2025 1st round pick) -Hunter Renfrow (1 year out of the league) -David Moore (Canales’ friend? A guy way past his prime) -Jimmy Horn (Likely a Shi Smith reprint, but has potential 2025 6th round pick, weighs 174 lbs) -Brycen Tremayne (2023 UDFA who was on Washington’s PS for 2 years and caught 1 pass for -2 yards and averaged 300 yards per year at Stanford) -Dalevon Campbell (2025 UDFA had a good preseason but had 1463 yards and 3 TDs over 5 college seasons at 3 different schools). What the hell is going on?
    • Not uncommon for week 1 games. Especially against good defenses. It’s why I prefer my team play these small schools week 1 if they are going to play them. Gives the offense time to get calibrated.
