Panthers met with Josh Allen

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Mentioned by Ian Rapoport during Senior Bowl coverage on NFL Network...

So yes, we've met with one first round quarterback, possibly others.

Of course, teams generally do their due diligence on players like this even if they're not expected to fall to you. And if you look back at prior Senior Bowls, you'll find we've met with quarterbacks pretty much every year.

Okay?

Now feel free to freak out.

I think this says more about Anderson than Cam.

Well you don’t really meet with an expected top 10 QB or even first round QBs to draft as a backup... Only if you’ve got a QB approaching 40 or you want a starter.

Basically I don’t think it says anything at all about our QBs, just us meeting with one because there’s no reason not to.

Allen has been lobbying to go number one overall to the Browns (and he might). He wants to be known as "the guy who turned that program around".

Definitely competitive, and perhaps a tad cocky.

He comes off as a good kid though. He talks a lot about the work ethic of his farmer dad and says that's who he wants to be like.

I wish him good luck on his career, but it won't be with us.

If the Panthers were to draft a QB of the future (and I don't think they will) the ideal target might be Mason Rudolph. He's a Rock Hill kid and a consummate nice guy who, from what I've seen, is expected to go mid first round, maybe higher.

If he were to drop to pick 24, I think you'd definitely have to look at him. I seriously doubt he'll drop that far, so you'd probably have to trade up to get him.

Mind you, stranger things have happened, but this would shock me enough that I'd probably have to worry about someone stepping on my tongue when my jaw drops to the floor.

I think its due diligence on players plus it might give you information on other guys.  The center at Wyoming is a late round prospect and it wouldn't hurt understanding interaction.  Not saying that is the primary reason but might as well be thorough.  How many times do you hear about teams going to scout a player but finding the diamond in the rough when doing so.

I'm with it not saying I want to replace Cam because I don't. Cam is still a top 5 QB just need more pieces. The Panthers are just doing their due diligence. We also play Cleveland next season.

Top 5? No...He most certainly is not. Can he be? Yes...but he was ranked like 20 this year? He has a lot to work on.

Huddlers get so stuck in the past. Right now, he sucks.

Charley Casserly also pointed out something I hadn't thought about.

Free agency.

"Personalities don't change" Casserly said, so what a lot of teams do is interview guys that they may not need now, but might be interested in down the road.  If the time comes that they're available, teams can go back to their Senior Bowl interviews to look at what they thought of them back when.

eh, I think Rudolph will go in the 2nd. We cant use a first round pick on a QB. Cam Is still 29 man.

His numbers suffered this year because he had to carry the run game despite us drafting an RB 8th overall the same year.

Are you slow in the head?

Sorry Scot but there's ZERO chance we draft a QB first round UNLESS we're deciding to move on from Cam definitively. Which ain't happening.

    • It works very well it’s just frustrating because it can win enough games to keep those three coaches employed even when they don’t innovate or ever make a decision that doesn’t come from a chart. If they weren’t so robotic in their decision making they’d be in the top tier of NFL coaches.
    • For Bryce’s obvious shortcomings (bad pun), there is upside to his game. This isn’t being a homer or apologists, but I like to consider myself fair in criticism.  He’s far tougher than I ever thought he’d be. I really thought homie would have been broken in half by now. I don’t know how he’s not, but he’s not.  He is prone to turning the ball over early in games which digs a huge hole the team is not built to come back from, but dude DOES come up with crucial first down in crucial situations. It’s NEVER pretty, but he just kind of has the shining. He gets bailed out LOTS, and the team still loses games because of him, but he’s a bit of an enigma. He’s a turnover machine that is clutch in big moments.  He’s a smart/elusive cat. He kind of has to be with his limitations. His audibles are almost always correct and he understands coverages. I don’t see him getting fooled too frequently. His turnovers are almost never the ‘damnit Jake/Cam!’ brand we have been accustomed to. They are ALWAYS due to his size/strength limitations.  Strip sacks that shouldn’t be. Picks that happened because he just don’t got that NFL arm. He is still prone to panicking and the wheels can and do fall off at a much higher rate than his peers.  The team is winning on the backs of the defense, running game and special teams… but they’re winning, and unbelievably 1 game behind Tampa. As long as this is happening and Bryce doesn’t go full meltdown, Dave is going to keep him in. He is not getting pulled.
    • This was a terrible podcast. A bunch of uninformed homers that had worse takes than the bottom 10% of the Huddle. I listened to a handful of podcasts this past offseason in search of new Panthers material since John Ellis doesn't do his pod anymore and The 4 Man Rush don't either. Immediately deleted it after the handful I listened to. Truly terrible.
