Some of that Kalil $ could have gone toward keeping Norwell

Well,  if I wasn't  so preoccupied trying to work,  I would have said that just because the market is filled with suspect LTs doesn't mean that you have to pay the normal going rate to anyone.  You let some other person do that,  and then you look for a value, even a Band-Aid if necessary.

And that's how you end up with Byron Bell and Mike Remmers.

$7M dead money in 2019 if we cut him that offseason. $3M cap hit last year, $7M cap hit next year. Not nearly as bad of a contract as people here make it out to be.

Now read the first line underneath. He gets a 10M option bonus in March or it turns into guaranteed base salary this year. 2.5M of that bonus is part of his 6.9 M cap hit for 2017. Sportrac fails to figure in the remainder of it. 7.2M left on his signing bonus and 7.5 of the option bonus. Remember when he signed, he got 25M guaranteed. This is where it comes from.

OTC has the correct(and depressing) numbers.

top dawg was part of the roving troupe of guys here constantly complaining that gettleman was being cheap a few years ago when we were starting these guys. in 2017 we make a splash and get matt kalil and now he’s got buyer’s remorse. “why did we pay him big money? we needed that for norwell...” because OT is one of those positions that are always overpriced in FA, and if we didn’t sign matt kalil, ppl would be on here this very day bitching about us being cheap and pinning gettleman’s firing on the fact that he wasn’t willing to take a risk on the guy, bc panther fans don’t know what the fug they want, and i’m honestly getting sick of the rhetoric here.

We basically threw 50+ million at a slightly less terrible version of both those guys.

I mean if we paid Bell or Remmers that much I would expect everyone here to be a little hot about it.

The irony is that you couldn’t have summed up the Dave Gettleman philosophy any better if you tried. Hence the “Bargain Bin Dave” nickname...yet the one time he strayed from his approach and overpaid for a FA, you are so quick and vocal to crucify him. This was such a stark contrast to how he had drawn up contracts and played out FA this far, which is why some people wonder if there was pressure from higher up for the Kalil signing.

So let's summarize.

50+ million to one of the worst left tackles in the NFL. Let Ginn walk to our biggest rival for peanuts to the detriment of our WR core. Drafted an RB 8th overall that couldn't even crack 500 rushing yards while our QB led the team in rushing and ended up nearly destroying his knee.

Executive of the year!

What you said is true but it completely doesn't represent an accurate picture of the franchise. We just went 11-5 and most of the team is running in fine shape. I hate bias like this because you point out the worst decisions of person while completely ignoring all the good things they have done. The good things outweigh the bad by a large amount. You can tell this by the 11-5 record and we were competitive in the playoffs.

You can't just blindly throw out 11-5 while completely overlooking extenuating circumstances.

Our QB almost blew his knee out dragging us to that record with his legs. You're okay with that? Remove that factor from the equation and we're lucky to replicate our 2016 win/loss record.

    • I thought this presented an interesting point. It is fair to wonder now, about switching the two QBs as so many tried to do that first year where Bryce was trash and CJ looked great.  It is almost the reverse scenario now and I wonder what CJ would look like here with better weapons better coaching and better protection. Overall, compared year one.  If each player had been in the other place for the three years. I would love to see CJ with this team now.  Just to see.
    • I really have no clue what to expect sunday.  To quote one of my favorite bands of all time, Operation Ivy "All I know is that I dont know".  We could win, hell we could win convincingly, we also could lose in blowout fashion.  We could be in a back and forth game with whoever has the ball last winning.  I legit HAVE NO CLUE.  This isnt the dominant bills teams of the past, Allen is still elite and can win any game by himself.  That said, heres my stab at looking at things. Our defense is made to stop this kind of team.  Strong against the run, a great corner but meh talent around the field.  We've stopped prolific run offenses this season.   Javonte Williams - Season low yards and ypa against us. De'Von Achane - Season low yards and ypa against us Breece hall - 3rd worst yards in a game Fact of the matter is, we arent what we were last year, we are a good run defense and that lines up well against the bills, Stop the run.  For once the lack of moving Jaycee might be a good thing, he will essentially lock down a side and without multiple real weapons thats fine.  Buffalo does not have an elite guy, theyve got a gaggle of average dudes.  Allen will stay away from Jaycee, it will be on Mike Jack and Chau Smith Wade do to their part and they will be matched with guys they can play at the level of. On offense, we do what the bills are bad at.  We run the ball well, and they suck at stopping the run.  Rico and Chuba will need 30 carries.  Andy Dalton will need to be opportunistic.  My big fear is what we learned last year, Dalton can get overconfident and make bonehead throws.  Its this simple.  Run the ball, stop the run.  Dont turn the ball over.  If we do these 3 things, we will be in a position to win in the 4th quarter.
    • This makes me wish we took a flyer on Quinn Ewers late in the draft
