Panthers hire Air Force DC Steve Russ as LBs Coach

Turns out he also played in the XFL where he was coached by Jim Skipper,  Wild.

He has never coached at the pro level though. Seventeen years of experience, all at the college level (including a few at Wake Forest).

Gotta figure the idea for this came from Eric Washington though. And it's interesting that Rivera went with a guy Washington knew rather than someone from his own past.

Given that, I'm gonna hazard a guess that Mills will be named DL coach and they'll hire someone to assist him.

Impressive resume! I feel pretty good about this hire. Also wise for him to earn his bones at the pro level as a position coach. But if his record at Air Force is any indication, he won't be a position coach for long.

Howard Griffith, Willie Green, Patrick Jeffers and even the late Jeff Lewis were all Broncos during Russ's time in Denver.

And of course, Panther dad Ed McCaffrey.

Possible.  Sometimes a guy just needs a break.

He actually has more coaching experience than Washington did at the time we hired him, though Washington had three years at the pro level.  Russ has none, but was an NFL player (Washington wasn't).

Well he's not a Rivera hire, so that's a step in the right direction.
