No one knows if he is going to be a good NFL D-line Coach or not.

So being super happy about it or pissed is pretty dumb.

He could be the best, he could be the worst. Probably someone in between.

I'm disappointed we didn't look at Buckner, but other than that you're correct.

I disagree with almost everything you said. I don’t want more position coaches who are just errand boys for the DC. Look at our secondary with Wilks moving up. No way you can tell me we didn’t take a step back.

Hoke has over a dozen years of DL coach experience with many NFL players, including Barnett last year. I’d say coaching at Michigan gives you a lot of experience with soon to be NFLers. I don’t know if he’ll be great or not, but I don’t want to just keep promoting from within if they aren’t truly the best guys. I want our DC thinking about the entire defense, our schemes and game plans not paying half attention because he has to coach the DL as well. That’s dumb.

Derek Barnett was drafted by the Philadelphia eagles and is about to play in another pro football game this coming Sunday

Odd for Mills not to be promoted. He's been DL assistant (in addition to retaining his job in quality control) during Rivera's entire tenure here and seems to have a great relationship with Eric Washington. Maybe he's fine where he is for right now?

He's going to be a position coach here not even a coordinator. Couldn't be further from being a head coach in terms of job duties. Coordinator is somewhat similar to head coach, but position coach is not.

I understand he's a d-line coach, but I was referring more to some guys are just better in a lesser position.

Well this is interesting, maybe.  It's probably because they are having a hard time getting anyone to come into an unknown career situation due to the team selling.

If this team has a winning season next year it will be a miracle.  What a poo show JR has created.

As a general proposition, I think it's good to see our team giving guys their first NFL coaching jobs-- no matter what that is. It's been said plenty of times elsewhere that coaches in the NFL just move around from team to team. Everyone is a retread from somewhere else. New blood in the NFL coaching ranks is good. Plus, as a younger guy, I've been told plenty of times by people that they want someone with more experience to do the job and it pisses me off royally. This guy has experience, just not at the NFL level-- sometimes someone new is a good thing. We'll see if he's up to it.

Out of all the coaching hires, I'm least worried about defense. Ron knows his team and his defense. He's producing a pipeline of NFL HCs from the defensive side of the ball. I defer to his decision and coach Washington's decision on who can handle the job.

Also, I don't necessarily want position coaches and coordinators who are "HC material". I want guys who are good at their current job and who want to do their current job-- not just talented guys who are dreaming of their next step. Coaching turnover isn't fun and maybe this guy is a great DL coach and that's all he needs to be. For people who think Ron's scared to hire someone who would challenge his authority-- why would you do that in the first place? If I'm the CEO, I don't wanna hire another guy who wants to be the CEO of the same company. Maybe I hire a guy who has talent to do so in the future, but why would I hire my direct competitor to undermine me right away? That's just dumb bullshit fans who like name brand things say to complain. Plus, one of the best "HC material guys" in the NFL was on Rivera's staff for 4 years and they were very close friends. Ron isn't scared and hiring a guy people don't know as well isn't necessarily an indication that Ron is "scared" for his job. Maybe Ron just wants a position coach to run a certain part of the team well for a long term and that's it. Not guys like Chud who try to get ahead at their current team's expense.
