Really dumb call by Belichick.

Bill is a system/matchups over players sometimes it’s a good thing sometimes it backfires

I would take butler any day but New England proved they can even win games without Brady.

They also proved that Nick Foles can light their D up for nearly 400 yards and 3 TDs with Butler on the bench. I get it if they don't want to re-sign the guy, but he was on the roster tonight and he was their best DB. Not playing him was really damn dumb. Belichick is a great coach but I think his ego may have gotten in the way this time.

It ended the way I wanted so if this had anything to do with it...good.

Oh, I think it did.

Eric Rowe has stated he had no idea he was starting till right before the game, so it's safe to assume that's when Butler was advised as well.  Also, going by Butler's pregame tears and postgame swears, I'd guess whatever Belichick said to him wasn't spoken in a gentle, kindhearted manner.

Regardless of what was said, I can't imagine it feels great to go from the hero of a previous Super Bowl to a non-participant in a current one.

Belichick runs a pretty tight ship and it is all geared towards winning.  Can't really argue with his strict approach, it has consistently produced double digit wins, year in and year out.  The Patriots history of championships is the still the envy of the league.

So I seriously doubt Belichick benched Butler on a whim.

Question is, what is it that Butler may have done to end up in Belichick's dog house the evening prior to the big game?  Did he bust curfew or have chicks in his room?  Whatever it might have been, chances are good that Bill saw it as a serious breach of trust and/or challenge to his authority.

Hopefully it is not the case, but if Butler actually went rogue the night before the big game, he betrayed his teammates trust and may have cost New England a SB win.

They were theorizing that it was just him giving up some plays against the Jags, not a conduct issue. Doubt we’ll ever know unless Butler comes out and says it. The “they gave up on me” makes me think it was his play though.

    • I think that depends more on how high our pick is. If we have the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd pick i think we are drafting a QB rather than shopping FA market for a QB1. Curious if we’d be reluctant to start a rookie QB week 1 though.
    • Hurney 2.0 and Fitts were so bad I don't know if it was intentional or they were that abysmally clueless. Fittershits panicked repeatedly being on the back end of positional runs while Hurney couldn't evaluate anyone outside of the 1st.  I can't figure out why Plummer still has a jersey. There's no reason. Dalton brings nothing to the table. If another QB gets cut that has given a glimmer of anything better than what we have, we should look, and that goes for every position.  I cant get over how much different this team could have been with a competent GM and having accepted the Rams offer for Burns. This franchise could have gone in a totally different direction.
    • I thought tanking wasn't actually a thing and we were firmly against it though?
