Any Chance the Hurney Decision Comes Back to Bite Rivera?

I know this was mostly JR's doings but it's no secret that Rivera wanted Hurney and lobbied for such. When a new owner comes in and get the pulse of things, could this reflect badly on Rivera? After all, he could've pushed for someone with a real background in player evaluation to actually help the team, instead of the 'just the guy' who hired him. and he's comfortable with.

How does it bite him?  He has a job.  If things go bad, they can blame everything on Hurney.  If things goes well he will get all the credit for hiring Norv Turner etc..

Uhm...if the new owner fires him too (during or after next season). And yeah, blame it on Hurney, who Rivera campaigned for.

If we have a 6 to 8 win season or so, maybe not.

Less than that though, and yeah, Rivera is probably in danger. And it wouldn't necessarily have to do with Hurney.

This season to come is basically everybody's audition for their jobs. Expect a fair number of front office people to be gone anyway because, thanks to Richardson, some of them are doing job they're not qualified for.

As far as coaches, make no mistake: If they fail to impress in their audition season, they're gone.

Coaches campaign for players sometimes too... do they get fired if the player sucks?  Not saying Rivera won't get fired, but it will probably have nothing to do with Hurney and more to do with how the team performs.

Yes, often times coaches do get fired when players suck because they are losing. I agree that it will mostly come down to team performance. Just thinking that Tepper, for example, seems to be no nonsense. If he is up in the air on Rivera (say they go 7 - 9 or so) and he fires Hurney and isn't happy about having to pay him $12 million or whatever because Hurney got a new contract two months before he bought the team, he may think to himself, this coach wanted someone he felt comfortable with instead of someone who could help him win.

Why do we conclude that the GM acts out on an island and the head coach has no say?

Hurney wont sign a player without Rivera agreeing, and Rivera will voice what he wants and needs on his roster. There is an entire team of scouts that handles finding these players and then Rivera signs off and Hurney uses PR tactics to get the player to sign.

To think that Hurney cuts players without conversing with Rivera is asinine. That's a Gettleman move. haha.

Who is concluding that?

Nobody.

Talent evaluation is not one of Rivera's strengths. It was Gettleman's, but he still always included Ron on every decision. That's been confirmed by both of them.

You can succeed with one guy who's good at something and one guy who's bad at it. Helps when the guy who's good at it is the one in higher authority.

When both are bad at it, yikes!

Do y’all ever wonder if you’re reaching a bit much with your crazy scenarios?

guys the Panthers front office isn’t ran like some sort of TV soap opera and Rivera isn’t going to get fired over Hurney, no body does that. hurney will get fired for his own actions and so will Rivera when/if the time comes.

yall are letting your hate cloud your judgement and reason.

Just wait till the new owner takes over, everything will get settled after that because anyone hired now is a stop gap till proven otherwise.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
