New owner could be determined by the end of March

Per Katie Peralta: March is the "action month" for the team sale

Quote

After a relatively quiet two months since the Carolina Panthers went up for sale, the process could soon pick up, and the team could choose its buyer within the next month.

March is going to be “the action month” in the sale process, a source familiar with the matter told the Observer. That means the names of a few more serious bidders could also emerge in the coming weeks as the process unfolds.

Bidders are considered “serious” if they can afford to buy the team outright, and the NFL franchise could sell for between $2.3 billion and $2.8 billion, experts say.

A winning bid could be selected as early as the end of this month or early next month, according to the source, who asked not to be named since the process is ongoing. That scenario would mean NFL team owners would vote to approve the sale during their May 21-23 meetings in Atlanta.

The league vote and final approval still wouldn't happen until May, but we may know who the projected winner is by late March or early April.

We also might be hearing some additional names before then.

A high-ranking league source, who is not authorized to speak publicly, told the Observer the NFL expects the names of a couple additional bidders to emerge in coming weeks. All potential buyers were required to sign a confidentiality agreement, prohibiting them from talking about their interest publicly.

No speculation yet as to who the others might be.

do you think a stat like that actually exists? :D

Check PFF.  Lord knows they have stats for everything else :)

I do know shortly after the Pegulas bought the Bills they had their first playoff appearance in years.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Panthers hoist a Lombardi the very first season the new owner puts his staff in place?  I would laugh so damn hard...and celebrate of course.

didn't we have a thread where the new owner decision was suppose to come 3 weeks ago?

Rapoport said it was expected to be finalized at the league meetings in May. The thought at that time was that the actual winner wouldn't be determined until around that time.

According to Peralta (and Person) we might actually know who the owner is expected to be much sooner than that, though we'd still have to wait on the league vote for the sale to be finalized.

Basically, it's like getting the presidential election results and then waiting on the Electoral College.

(it's a metaphor, you a$$holes; keep yer politics outta this thread)

One kind of hitch in this: Sabates had previously said his group would be submitting their bid by April 1st.  I'm wondering if the deadline for bids has been moved to earlier than that.

If so, it's conceivable Sabates may not end up getting to make a bid at all.

There will be groups that will surprise you. Nobody was talking about the Pegulas in Buffalo until they submitted their final bid. So be prepared to be astonished.

It's gonna be interesting to watch, but my gut says we still end up with Tepper.

Net worth of nearly 12 billion and they don't need to have him checked out because he's already in the club...Those are bug advantages.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
