Like you said, it's undecided right now. It's March dude.

If he sucks I'll admit it. But I was one of the Panthers fans that bought into Dave Gettleman trying to replace Ted Ginn with Shepard in 2017 and Underwood in 2014, and you see how that worked out for us. Let it play out.

Undecided...

That sounds like im willing to let it play out.

After having the day to think it over, it’s not so bad of a trade. $5M is not much for what’s the going rate of WR in FA is going to be. As everyone has stated, we revitalized Ginn’s career. No reason we can’t do the same with Smith who is the better receiver. He was on some crappy SF teams and played 4th fiddle in Philly. He’s only 29 too.

Since the contract is not huge there’s still a chance we can bring someone like Wallace, Pryor or Moncrief on the low if no one throws crazy money at them. There’s also the draft to groom one.

Parting with Worley also forces Hurney’s hand in uprgrading the secondary. There’s some FA CBs worth bringing in along with the draft. So barring something dumb (I know) we shouldn’t be worse than last year here.

You seriously have to question the intelligence of Panthers fans griping about Torrey Smith being 29 when soon to be 33 year old Ted Ginn played a key role in the Saints beating us 3 times in one season last year.

if we sweep the saints in the regular season in 2018 and smith’s statline is 4/71/1 combined i’d like to hear you say he played a key role bc 2 receptions for 35 yards and a half a TD per game is nothing to crow about and it just speaks to you being dramatic about every decision gettleman made here

Well I'll tell you one thing. That statline looks a hell of a lot better than a big fat nothing from no hands Shepard on a near identical contract to what Ginn got from the Saints. But keep on keeping on I guess.

Thoughts on the Trade:

1. Gives a solid deep threat who will be great in the locker room.

2. No guarantee that we would be able to get him in FA or what his price would be. The past few deals these guys are getting are extremely high.

3. Keeps in tact the possibility to get a 3rd round comp when Norwell leaves. This is one reason I don't see us picking up any FAs this year. I feel like we will just go after guys that are cut not high priced FA because that would us essentially trading a 3rd round pick and paying big money to a guy.

4. I liked the Worley/Bradberry combo and thought that Worley was improving so that is hard to deal with but if we are able to pick up a solid CB I would not have a problem with this at all.

5. Seymour looked good and split time with Worley last year. We also have Corn Elder and Cole coming back.

6. Good trade, let's see what's next

nothing next

shepard outplayed ginn in that 2nd game by 1 reception and 2 yards

that’s a little more significant production than ginn in that “key role” you were ballyhooing about a little earlier

Come on panther time? Really? Paying Allen Robinson 12 mil a year coming off a knee injury? Who says he doesn’t choose somewhere else. Who says he and Watkins don’t choose somewhere else? What then? Get with the program Panthertime, we will never overspend on the top tier FA guys, mainly because it’s dumb and doesn’t correlate to success.

You make a good point, Swagg. You sold me against Robinson and the costs it would take to get him. Still have some concerns on Smith, though.

How is it awful?

People calling Torrey smith a legitimate deep threat have not seen him play in years. We just committed almost 10 million to Graham gano and Torrey smith in a week. Darryl Worley is not nearly as bad as eveyone made him out to be. He was a cheap young corner who was our best tackling secondary player. You all might not have loved him, but we just created an unnecessary hole. We still need a WR and now need corner depth.

This is a classic Hurney move. They guy still hasn't learned.

Shepard at a cost of 3.3 million a year:

202 yards, 1 touchdown

Ginn at a cost of 3.6 million a year:

787 yards, 4 touchdowns.

Just got off work and I'm not about to read all 44 pages of this.  Especially with all the bitchin and moanin.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Worley benched last year, and moaned and griped about it?  He seemed pretty disgruntle to me.  Now he has a change of scenery.   Maybe what he wants.

As for Smith.  This exactly the kind of player they've been talking about adding.  Folks were saying they thought we were trying to get younger forget that just a week ago Rivera talked about getting a player with some age in the receiver room.  Smith fits the bill perfectly.
