Moton will be tried at left guard

Of course he'll be given a shot and he may be our starter there this year. However I do still think the ultimate plan is to groom Moton to be our long term LT. That's where he fits best. After we cut Matt after this season I'm thinking Moton shifts over there.

I think that experience beats sitting, so this is the case.  I will also add that I would not be surprised if he says at LG.

Ty! A voice of reason. People are underestimating this pick.

"I had to go back and watch his 2015 tape when he played guard. He was a little rough at tackle this year but that isn't his spot. Big and strong as a guard. He was moving guys from Ohio State around like it was nothing." -- Area scout for NFC team

I wonder if Wharton had some input here.

Saying Moton will have the opportunity to compete for the LG position does not mean he can or will play inside...that’s simply what they’re trying to find out.

He did not beat out Williams or Kalil--so we do not know if he "can or will" play outside.

When he was drafted, I thought he would be a guard.

I fully expect him to move to LT in 2019--but I would have to say he is the frontrunner for the LG job.

No reason knowing was Stewart's last season, and seeing his paltry numbers that down the stretch CAP should've seen more reps, he's looked better the last two pre-seasons, has burst, has power, the QB exchanges were an issue a time or so, but if he's not getting reps things like that happen.

I wouldn't put it past us if we want to get a good one to pair with CMC. Williams and Stew were first rounders when we had Foster, and later when we had Williams and drafted Stewart.

Our offense feeds off the run, so it makes sense, I know many people don't want to hear that, but based on how the team plays securing a bell cow talent to pair with CMC will help make this offense go. CAP is a 'smokescreen' but he should've gotten more PT before.

I think he's heading into the final year of his deal the last thing we need is to pass up talent with a 5th year option, or 4 years if we take one in a different round. In the event CAP has a breakout year and looks for a bigger pay day, we'd be right back in the same scenario next draft looking for a talent to pair with CMC.

To guys acting like CMC should be the lead back just because he was 8th overall need to realize we drafted him because he's good at more than just running, so you have to have an additional true talent to pair with him when he motions out, or when 22 marches onto the field so the defense has to pick a poison. Nickel to match the back (CMC) flexing out, or base to defend the run with a real threat in the backfield.

As much as they say there is a competition at a position, they have to know their personnel before the draft and free agency.  About a month ago, Rivera was saying that Moton is a tackle.  Now this.  Regardless, if the lineup at the bottom of the page is probably what they have in mind, the will have to replace both Ryan Kalil in 2019 and possibly Matt in 2019 or 2020.  I wish that I understood the Matt Kalil contract better--only $25m guaranteed--when can we cut him?  I expect that we draft a C for 2019.  If we also draft a LT candidate, it could suggest a 2019 Matt cut.  We will have to pay Williams big money that year, and even if we create dead cap hell, it may be cheaper to cut him and play a third rounder from 2018's draft.

Before we look at the awesome graphic at the bottom of the page, take this PFF information with a grain of salt and consider that about $25m of the cap will go to the Kalil brothers.  Larsen rated higher than Ryan, and Williams makes 4th overall pick Matt look as if he is rehabbing from a tragic scooter accident.

Not entirely.

Its been batted back and forth on here a lot (even recently) whether Moton could or would play inside or not. Rivera seems to have settled the question now.

why do I want to add "and hanged" to your title?

That is the Hurney way--he gets immediate praise for a safe pick. RBs are low-hanging fruit.  A developmental pick (like a Landry, for example) is what the long-term, visionary would do, but Marty knows this is a 1-year gig for him and if he does not find 3 key contributors...

Think we won't go RB after drafting CMC in 2017?  Flashback to DWilliams and Stewart.

Argh.  A draft that is pretty deep at RB--and with so many more pressing, long-term needs--Marty will grab the safety rope and try not to embarrass himself.
