Quick question?

Do people think we can draft a team that can get in shootouts with our division opponents?

Seriously are we closer to having a team that can outscore top offenses or stop them??

I think with a better secondary paring with our front 7.. We are closer to  stopping them.. We need a lot more for Cam to match fire power even with the teams in our division.. jmo

    Why do we need to be one or the other?

 

    Why can't we be a balanced, well coached, disciplined team, that wants to beat the heck out of you physically?

I’d rather have a team like 2013 that held large majority of teams and many great offenses including Aints to 13 or less.

Because we have more money into our Defense.. Balance can be more of complementary football thing.. Like 2015 the offense thrived off the defense.. We are closer to that type of team now .

Closer means a dominate edge, and very good secondary. Remember we had great safety play, great CB play, and a dominate interior and edge rush with our linebackers free to roam. After that we lost CB, S, and Edge.

I personally don't think the team is broken. If anything, the team performed exceptionally well considering the serious injury problems they had. We were competitive throughout the season, made it to the playoffs and only dropped one game to a non-playoff team. We beat the Patriots at home and took the Eagles to the wire. And that's with major injuries to a number of big name players and the trading of Kelvin Benjamin, a change of GM right at the beginning of training camp AND the shake-up of ownership.

This whole "oh man, we sucked and we better get serious about it" stuff is just b.s. We have a good team, we have good coaching (perhaps even better now) and we have a good future ahead of us.

Right now, our team is based on being competitive in all phases of the game. Not dominating one, but being competitive in each. And that makes us a very hard team to beat. If we don't take injuries to starters, we can literally take anyone in the league.

And, of course, as the Bears game last year proved, any team can lay an egg.

I don’t think the addition of Norv and subtraction of Shula can be stressed enough...

    Man, if Norv, and Cam hit it off? I don't think we will need to worry about that Offense. Cuz it very well could be a whole lotta fun to watch.

I think Norv will help a lot.  My big thing is the way this draft is we have a better chance of really building a dominant defense.. I don't see anything in the draft making us significantly better on offense... Norv is our improvement on offense...

You just gotta let the draft dictate whether you’re going to surround talent around the offense or defense. We can’t do like we’ve done it the past and and be dead set on offense or defense in a draft and pass up on guys.

Well here's what I'd say... The only piece on offense that matters we're losing from last year is Norwell. Is it a significant loss? Yes. I loved the guy, but in the end he's just a guard and is very replaceable (possibly Moton)... Here's who we gain essentially, without even taking the draft into account... A healthy Funchess, Samuel, Byrd, Wright, Smith at WR. Olsen and Kalil if they stay healthy. And with Ryan playing is when Matt was at his best so that's a double improvement. Add in Cam being fully healthy this offseason, which he wasn't last year, PLUS huge upgrade at OC and QB coach and I think we're in really solid shape on offense. And that's without the draft. Plus I wouldn't even say offense was a big weakness last year. We were a very solid overall team. Playing in NO is tough let alone in the playoffs and I personally think the biggest issue was Brees picking us apart all game. Offense, despite the struggles with WR in that game and red zone efficiency, wasn't really the problem and did more than enough to win the game.

 

As as far as the draft goes now I hope we just add some really talented players early regardless of the position. CB, S, OG/C, WR, TE, DE would all be fine by me in the first 3 rounds. We don't have any EXTREMELY dire prsssing needs and I think we can afford to just add the best talent at any of those positions and really any of them can contribute immediately and help in the future.
