Verge's mock draft

It’s weird that people are now agreeing that Reid isn’t worth a 1st but TEs are becoming the popular pick there for the Panthers. Maybe Sanjay is gradually brainwashing the Huddle.

No brainwash here I just understand we need a good te and tired of not getting one. So I don't understand after what happened to Olsen last year why nobody understands that. Reid is not worth a first rd pick imo. I think that draft would be very successful.

I think we can trade down into the second and get almost that draft plus maybe another 3rd.

But I always appreciate Verge's views. He knows more than me.

could happen

That was meant jokingly though I wouldn’t put it past Sanjay. I get that we need TE. Sell it to me. What makes this guy so fantastic? He isn’t special athletically. Not amazing college production. Second choice sport after baseball where he got the yips. Is it purely based on need?

I think their is going to be an emphasis on offense in this draft, guys who can be molded to the roles Norv needs for the offense to grow around Cam Newton.

R1 24: Hayden Hurst, TE, SC
Looks very much like Greg, but a bit more versatile, will be a jack in our offense, and we will see a lot of 2 te sets this year with Hurst.

R2 55: Justin Reid, S, STA
A very rangey FS with top end speed. We need safeties and he makes sense. Could very easily see Jessie Bates here as well.

R3 85(could trade up for him): Rashaad Penny, RB, SDST
Multi tool back built like a bowling ball, would be awesome in between the tackles, and can pair with McCaffrey with pass catching.

R3 88: DaeSean Hamilton, WR, PST
Smooth route runner with enough speed for seperation, really round out our receiver core.

R5 161: Jaylyn Holmes, DE, OHST
Solid defensive end depth that can turn into a true starter.

R6 197: Levi Wallace, CB, ALA
Long armed corner that can play zone and has excellent ball skills.

If it was to happen I wouldn’t mind it all but I really just don’t think Hurst is as good as people think he is. I probably would prefer Dallas Goedert or Mike Gesicki if we take a TE especially that early. I also thought last year draft was meant to reset the offense to a certain extent. I just don’t know if it’s right thing to do this year to commit a full draft to just offense.

If you put Reid at 24 and Hurst at 55 some of the people would actually be happier with the draft.  Either way I would be extremely happy with the draft as a whole.

55 and 88 would both be great value.  I don't want to be the "won't be there" person, but I would be shocked if they were.

This guy has it all he can, catch, block, and run with the ball. Watch his tape it looks great. Can't get much production when you don't have a great QB.

We have Norv now so he wants his guys. Shula didn't know who to draft and Gettleman couldn't draft for poo.

Reid is an second rd pick and Hurst will not last till 55. I can see saints getting after us since they need a te.

I like it for the most part and while I do like Hurst I really do not want to take him at 24. Maybe trade down to back end of first with QB needy team and then pick him up. Otherwise there will be better players at 24 than Hurst. Reid in 2nd is good and I like Penny and Hamilton in the 3rd. Let the players fall as they may in the top 3 but TE, HB and WR in the first four picks is not ideal to me (if they are truly BPA then great but Hurst wouldn't be at 24).

I understand that and it wasn't the point I was trying to make.

Some of the people that don't like Hurst at 24 would probably be happy with Reid at 24.  Then Hurst at 55 would be totally acceptable to them.  Same players, different order, and the perception for some people changes.

Personally I expect Hurst in the 20-30 range. Reid in the 25-40 range.  Also I would be shocked if Penny made it to us at 85.  I think he has a chance to go back half of 2nd.

Every player in the draft looks good on YouTube highlights. I read that none of the better TE prospects are strong blockers they’re all big slot receivers which is their designation in college football. Though I’m sure Verge and his source are better judges than me. Likewise yourself since I have never watched college football.

Seems crazy to me to think Hurst can be picked only 6 slots lower than O.J. Howard went last year. For me there it’s no comparison.
