Cornerback Boards

Untouchable

Recommended Posts

Panthers will be heavily interested in the position.  Especially with three of their top corners all set to become free agents after 2 seasons (Bradberry, Cockrell, Seymour).  You can take a look at what scouts are saying about how the CB board is shaping up here:

http://draftanalyst.com/cornerback-boards-few-surprises

Quick Summary Here:

-8 CBs expected to be off the board by the middle of Round 2

1. Denzel Ward, OSU (Hands down)

2. Josh Jackson, Iowa

3. Jaire Alexander, Louisville (Combine riser; 2nd on some teams boards)

-Next 5: Mike Hughes (UCF), Isaiah Oliver (Colorado), Carlton Davis (Auburn), Donte Jackson (LSU), Rashaan Gaulden (Tennessee)

-Quenton Meeks (Stanford) & JC Jackson (Maryland) both expected to be selected on second day of draft.

Before the combine the board looked like this:

Quick Summary:

1. Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bama (Viewed primarily as a safety now)

2. Denzel Ward, OSU (Top 15 Selection)

3. Josh Jackson, Iowa/ Carlton Davis, Auburn

5. Mike Hughes, UCF (Late 1/Early 2 range)

-13 CBs projected to be selected in the draft's first 2 days.

Last thing we need is for yall to grab another stud. This is why i dont mind addressing the position early, and i hope we can get the best guy from this draft.

The Saints have done a good job with the draft last year. And seem to be building their defense which is smart. We are going to have to improve our offense to compensate.  And put more emphasis on our secondary.

what, suck for 3 years, have one good season, cash in a huge check and vanish on his next team?

So you wake up salty as well? Norman didn't cash a huge check here. Gettleman pulled out the rug and wouldn't negotiate after Norman dumped his crappy agent.

I would be good with Oliver, however I would prefer either Josh Jackson or Jaire Alexander. I think either of the two become our number 1 CB this year. Then let the others battle it out for the number 2 spot. Then have two positional guys to step in and give the 1 and 2 a breather.

The only consensus among the CBs seems to be Ward as the first.  After that it seems to widely vary amount the next 5 or so.  Some people have Hughes in the top 3.  I've seen Jackson anywhere from 2nd to 5th.

Teams seem to like different types of CBs so it makes it harder to predict the order they will come off the board.  If teams 2, 3 and 4 all like press type corners then a zone type might fall, or if team 2 likes zone he might go early.

    • Here in lies the rub that the supporting posters continue to ignore. He wasn’t a 2nd round pick in the 2025 class, especially with an ACL tear. It was a dumb pick for any GM who looks ahead to determine values. C and CB were much better values than an injured RB in 2024. If a RB isn’t even playing much in 2024, you have to compare him to 2025. We’re beating a dead horse but only because the defense of the pick is almost comical at this point. We’ve made a ton of poo picks and moves/non trades while Morgan was GM and the assistant GM. It happens, we don’t have to jump through hoops to act like we just had some really bad luck. The 2025 draft class is unknown so far but damn it felt way better afterwards for the first time in a long time. Embrace the potential and stop stamping guaranteed on the box of poo of the 2018-2024 drafts. We are were we aware because of them and 2025 has to hit so we can get past the 7 win max in 7 year hurdle.
    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
