Secondary - Reminder

The Breeland situation seems to have gotten everyone excited and then deflated pretty quickly this offseason...which is why I believe people are downplaying the Ross Cockrell signing.  I want to break down a few parts in the secondary:

James Bradberry

Is the first outside guy to mention who now has a few seasons under his belt with a sophomore struggle but he can come out of the slump.  He's not a ballhawk but is a solid CB to have with great length.  Don't forget, 6'1.

Ross Cockrell

We got a 6'0"+ 26 year old outside corner on a multi-year deal who is coming off a solid 50+ tackle season with 3 picks.  Furthermore, the fans really liked him and there's plenty to see in his game.  He is so much better than Worley and Seymour, it ain't even funny.

Donte "Action" Jackson

Projected as a late-1st/early 2nd by many, 5'11, can play in the slot and outside.  Fastest player in the draft is always a plus and is IN-GAME QUICK.  Instant starting NB who will play 40% of our snaps given how our defense is structured.  I don't think people are realizing that.

Corn Elder

I'm really high on him but don't forget to temper expectations; he was a 5th round pick.  Great upside and with now being healthy, will compete for KR/PR duties.  Can easily roll into the slot if Cockrell or Bradberry go down and Jackson slides to the outside. He's pretty much is like an extra draft pick this year.

Kevon Seymour

We just traded for him last year and he didn't look bad.  Outmuscled and out of his element at times but he's a solid roster backfill at 6'0.

Captain Munnerlyn

He may end up getting cut, but at least you know what you get with him.

Ladarius Gunter

An athletic 6'2 200 corner who may or may not make the roster.

And the draft isn't even over yet.  Sooooo...

If/when Munnerlyn gets cut, we'll have 2 solid NFL starter quality guys on the outside and a group with only Elder and Jackson sub-6'0".  One happens to have lightning speed and the other is an electric return man.  Looking at this group, this idea that we only have small NBs is ridiculous.  It's actually well rounded and we got a really promising talent in Jackson.  I could do a little spotlight on him, but I'll leave that to someone else, not trying to write a book.

Adios.

I’ve been saying Cap’n will be a June 1st cut for a while. Save a decent chunk this year with that designation. + Sheppard and we can sign some vets to supplement this excellent rookie class.

CJ Anderson available ...

    • After watching Dan for 3 yrs now, I think I understand his plan. It’s a simple plan that should work for the long run.     I saw some of this last yr. Dan wants a vet and a young player at each position. I really think we go OT if one they like there. Moton is aging, Icky will not be back until 27, if ever. We need to get ahead of the tackle problem
    • You are just stressing too much about these particular positions. You want to upgrade from Bryce and I understand that but you aren’t going to really get that without getting into a bidding war for a QB2 potential QB1 like Willis. You could possibly trade for Mills or the backup for Chicago but they are still gambles and their teams will won’t decent picks.  Again the Eagles thought KP was a capable enough backup to trade for him once their backup was hurt and won a Super Bowl with him as QB2. The point is most teams aren’t rolling with some stud QB2/3 that is going to push even a bottom tier starter. They are better off the building their roster in other areas. The Rams are rolling with Bennett right now as QB2 for example.  The goal is winning absolutely. We overachieved last year even with stumbling into the playoffs. Another year and this staff needs to take the next step in building a team. Will Grier has little to no impact on that….
    • Three straight first round WRs is straight up Matt Millen poo. Considering the draft capital we have tied up on Bryce after that trade we would basically have spent damn near all of our draft capital in recent years on QB and WR just to put one of the most anemic passing offenses in the league on the field. Clown show poo.
