Interesting thought on the ending.

Just before Strange turns to dust he looks at Stark and says, “Tony, it was the only way.”

Now at first glance it seems obvious Strange is talking about giving Thanos the time stone, thus initiating half the population’s demise. 

But what if Strange is actually foreshadowing events from the next film? Maybe when Strange went into the future he saw that Stark will have to sacrifice himself in order to defeat Thanos and bring everyone back, and THAT is what he’s referring to with “it was the only way”. 

If there is a double meaning there, it’s a heart breaking goodbye from Strange to Stark that we will look back on.

Yeah I think that's pretty obvious since Strange said he seen all futures and they win in ONE.    In that future Stark has to live for them to succeed in beating Thanos.    I don't think it necessarily means he'll have to die, he may, but more so if they didn't just give him the time stone Thanos kills Stark and wins the war and they all lose just like the other futures except that one.

An absolutely incredible film. I'm still in shock they pulled off all those characters while making it compelling, entertaining and hilarious. 

Oh and they established the hardest villain to date in the MCU with arguably the best results. I say hardest because you had to really feel the weight of Thanos. From opening scene to finale, they did it. 

Thanos character was awesome.  His "children" were extremely tough as well.  At the length of this movie it felt like it flew by.  Amazing.

Oh and the new Iron Man suit was bad ace.

The whole “character deaths were real” is just a clever play at words.

 

most of the characters didn’t die. Thanos snapped them out of existence which isn’t technically dying

Looks like it. Would explain Cap in his Avenger's suit. I think I saw a picture of Thor in his first Avengers suit as well. Might be something like they use the time stone to go back to the battle of NY with everyone and beat Thanos that way?

Late to this party but my son and I watched it last night. As someone who watches as more of a casual moviegoer I thought it was a very entertaining movie, well done overall, and the acting in the final scenes was fantastic (particular kudos to Tom Holland). I really like how they handled Dr. Strange's giving over of the time stone, as his motives can be interpreted any number of ways.

I hadn't really seen anything since Iron Man 2 but now that my kids are older we've recently watched Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther before this one. Maybe it's naive optimism but I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

You have to watch the Guardians movies, probably both of them in the top 5-7 MCU movies.

I forgot that we did watch about half of GotG2 as well. It was pretty good and between that and Infinity War Drax is hilarious. Bautista is killing it in that role.
