The funniest stat for me is the Saints D is predicted to be 32nd best in the league. Which is clearly dumb but made me laugh.

Saints are a projected 32 ranked defense but have a better chance for a SB matchup than anyone else in the NFCS and a better chance to win the division...ok then. If they do in fact finish 32nd in defense I can guarantee those other things will not happen.

We're one of the Top 3 or 4 most balanced teams by those rankings, and a lot of that is with an offense that has no where to go but up.

Also, the NFC...lawd Jesus. It was wild last year and going to be crazier this year it seems.  Let's just seed the playoff teams regardless of conference please.

looks great at #9 until you see we’re projected 3rd in the NFCS.

Can we move to the AFCE so we can get a guaranteed playoff bid ever year?

Let's make it geographical as best as we can

Falcons / Bucs / Dolphins / Jags

Panthers / Redskins / Bengals / Titans

Cardinals / Cowboys / Texans / Saints

Rams / Raiders / Chargers / 49ers

Seahawks / Broncos / Chiefs / Vikings

Packers / Bears / Lions / Colts

Browns / Steelers / Ravens / Eagles

Bills / Jets / Giants / Patriots

I would love to see this.  I think the closer the teams are the better the rivalry.

The NFL would never go for it because for god sake they cannot split the great matchup of Dallas and Washington which IMO is so 80s.   The NFL (or teams) would save a butt load of cash on travel expenses too.

I'm interpreting the FPI analysis differently. I don't think they are suggesting that the Saints will have the 32nd ranked defense next year. I think they are indicating that based on the defensive FPI score, the Saints have the highest variance (-2.2) of all the NFL teams, which is true based on the FPI unit rankings. This is also true for all of the other FPI scores and associated rankings.

As bad as espn is sometimes, I don't think they would project the Saints defense as being the absolute worst in the league, given that they were 17th last year and added a lot of new defensive pieces via free agency and the draft.

That makes a sort of sense. If so it’s Peculiar that it was so poorly explained by ESPN. I read it as a predicted variance because otherwise I can’t see how they can be ranked 32. They weren’t close to the worst last year.

Regardless, as much as I dislike the Saints, a D with Cam Jordan and Lattimore should have its moments. I think they will be a middle of the road D this year.

The Dolphins have no business in the AFC East

It just makes too much sense for the NFL. They have 8 division games use one of the other 8 games to play your rival. The current setup is terrible.
