Adam Rank: 5 reasons the Panthers will make the playoffs

We are taking the Carolina Panthers for granted. They are like "Mission Impossible" movies. All of them are just delightful. But there's one coming out this summer and it just slipped my mind. The Panthers are a lot like that. They went 11-5 last year. Made the playoffs. Even had a spirited game against the Saintson Wild Card Weekend.

And yet, they were one of the least-buzziest teams to make the playoffs in recent years. Even the 7-8-1 Panthers of 2014 received more attention. Though they were making headlines for reasons other than what you'd want, being a losing team making the postseason and all. Still, the Panthers are one of the most consistent teams in the NFL, making the playoffs in four of the past five seasons. Here are five reasons why they will make it again in 2018:

1. Because Hurney will 1000% get fired if we don’t

2. Because Rivera will 100% get fired if we dont

3. Because everyone in the front office knows #1 and #2

4. Because everyone in the locker room knows #1 and #2

5. Because we should be pretty damn good

Pretty pathetic reasons. Just saying.

An Impala? That’s the “awesome car” that came to mind for your comparison? LOL! Your mullet is showing.

I wasn't looking for an awesome car. I was looking for a dependable car that will get the job done. Something better than the flintstones-mobile that bare-foot shula was pedaling around.

Reality is all our coaches and players want to win. That is their motivation.

Nothing else.

Sure. They’re completely immune to the everyday pressures that we all feel to perform or face unemployment, right? Wrong.

Sorry man, the numbers are bigger but pro athletes and other employees of professional sports teams live in the same world that we all do. It’s comical how so many fans seemingly have no grasp of this concept.

    • I agree but he honestly has gotten better about this. Used to be he’d do it like 4-5 times a game, now it’s like 2-3. Overall I’m incredibly happy with his game, his D has been solid and when he is playing his role he’s a solid scorer and one of the few guys who can consistently finish at the rim and provide that threat. Plus he’s electric and LaMelo loves him. Going into the season I was sure he would just be a stop gap here but now I’m reconsidering and could see him continue to be a “core” piece here. Obviously not on the level of the other starters but he is an important cog for this team. We felt his missed presence during his and Moose’s suspensions.
    • Philly will be a bigger challenge than the Knicks were IMO. George and Embiid are back, not sure about Maxey but Embiid alone is a nightmare matchup for us and Moose. We’ve never really done well against him. Celtics added Tatum but honestly not sure they’re all that much better with him right now than they were when we whooped them a few weeks ago. We should be able to at the very least split these 2, hopefully take both.
