Falcons tell Julio Jones to suck it

Julio Jones is #1 in NFL history in yards per game..he is future HOF. He’s 29 with 3 years left...he is worth way more than a 3rd rounder.

And Julio deletes some pictures off his Instagram / skips mini camp and now he’s like Bell and OBJ? In reality Julio has not once come out and say he wants more money. The media did.

Yes, and that is your opinion. To me, he is only worth a third rounder. And deferentially not worth the raise he wants.

From the AJC, posted a few minutes ago-ish:

Jones can be fined $40,000 a day for not reporting to training camp. The last Falcon to holdout was wide receiver Roddy White back in 2009. He held out for six days.  The Falcons gave White a six-year, $50 million contract extension, with $18 million guaranteed, in 2009 after a six-day holdout. White had one year remaining on his contract before the new deal was reached.

Jones and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, were informed that he would not get a new contract. His current contract has three years remaining.

Jones signed a five-year, $71.2 million contract extension Aug. 31, 2015. The deal included $47 million in guaranteed money, with base salaries of $10.5 million (2018), $12.5 million (2019) and $11.4 million (2020). He’s set to be the seventh-highest paid wide receiver in the league, but has three years remaining on the deal.

Jones is not happy with his contract as the market shifted over the offseason with deals signed by Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans (five year, $82.5 million), Cleveland’s Jarvis Landry (five year, $75-million) and Kansas City’s Sammy Watkins (three-year, $48 million). Now add the deal the Rams gave Brandin Cooks (five year, $80 million) last week

Well now this is actually getting interesting. Im guessing Julios going to cave at some point because he wont want to miss his checks

He wants more money, you know he isn't going to skip a check.  Once the season starts he'll be there.

i blame his agent.   If his agent was smart he would have done a 3 year deal and given him leverage now.  He didn't and his client is locked up for 3 more years.   I wouldn't be surprised if after the season they extend his contract and add SOME more money to it.   I seriously doubt he will ever come close to the 28m per year he is asking for.

I can't seem to find it again, but I remember reading an article about how these fines typically get negotiated away and are never really collected. Agents have started to notice and are advising players to basically ignore them. It may embolden players to hold out.

You're not talking about a fake injury?  http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/141089578/muhammad-wilkerson-ny-jets-injury-holdout

JJ is like that 2 year old right before his parents bring home a newborn. He’s trying to get more money before that Alabama kid hits the field for the first time.

Don’t worry JJ, Matty will still love you. You will just have to share that love with the new kid.

    • He's not wrong though. You talk like a politician on here. Leaving yourself just enough wiggle room to say you never fully counted Bryce out if you need to....But we can all see it. Just say you think he is a bust outright and you will have to type a lot less. Obfuscating your opinion behind QB3 competitions etc....
    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
