Hell, honestly most of us here thought we were done. I sure wouldn't have predicted 15 wins and a Super Bowl run at that point, I know that.

I was one as well. That season was the best thing ever. Except, bc of that season, every writer compares us to that team. We just aren’t that team. On paper, we are better than that team but we all know how it goes, anything could happen.

Lol. In a world full of stats. Gunn started in 2007, Smith in 2011. Even with 4 more years, Ginn has 10 less TDs, only 120 more yards and he has a career 14.0 ypr. Smith has a 16.4 ypr average.

People are underrating Smith and overrating Ginn. Go look at 2011-2015. Ginn’s nowhere near Smith’s run there. Is Smith going to get back to that after suffering through an awful 2016 SF and being the 4th or 5th option last year? Not sure, but this is recency bias and a Saints fan, not reality. @t96 was correct.

Smith was basically a #1 receiver in Baltimore, of course his overall numbers are better lol. On top of playing in an offense QBd by a guy that literally only throws deep well,in Flacco, while Ginn was stuck in SF with Alex Smith and a conservative offense.

Ginn dropped 2 balls all year last year. Caught all 10 catchable deep balls thrown his way and had the 3rd highest deep ball catch rate in football. Meanwhile, Torrey was nonexistent in an explosive Philly offense.

Ginn has more than double the yards Smith has the last 2 years and had the best year of his career.

Really have to disagree with this.

Ginn as a deep threat is far more crisp in route running and against press in comparison to what I’ve seen from Smith. Plus, he’d faster and more athletic.

Sure, his hands have been hit or miss with us, but at the same time in terms of ability in separation, getting open, and route running, Ginn outclasses Smith.

I think Smith is more or less fine for us and will be good. But if I had a choice between Smith or Ginn, I’d take Ginn in a heartbeat.

Which Ginn?  When he was here he couldn't catch a cold.

Panther's Ginn < Smith < Saint's Ginn.

Ginn dropped some balls, but was still amongst the league leaders in deep catches in Carolina.

Dropped some balls?  Are you kidding, he had one of the worst catch percentages in the league when he left.  He was the league leader in deep drops.

Smith was never really a actual 1, him and Boldin would flip flop. And that the difference with Ginn and Smith, Smith was able to beat out other WR for a starting role, meanwhile Ginn kept getting beat out. Arizona signed him with intention of him being the number 2/3 but he got beat out by a rookie John Brown in training camp. There was a point where Ginn was getting beat out by Kyle Williams for reps.

Ginn is not that good of a receiver, he just gotten two golden opportunity in weak receiving cores with good QBs. Torrey Smith in Baltimore>>>>>Ginn at any point in his career.  You said Ginn was stuck in SF in a conservative offense (even though Harbaugh isn’t that conservative) well Smith was stuck with Gabbert in SF in a god awful offense.

But we're not talking about as an overall WR. I'd be taking Smith in a heartbeat. I'm talking strictly deep threat, I'm taking Ginn.

    • I mean, I wouldn't classify him as elite, but he is good. Are you arguing that he's JAG? There aren't many elite pass rushers in the league today in my opinion. Carter and Thibodeuax don't seem to be. I mean, come on. Sometimes rushers get to the QB, sometimes they don't. Sometimes injuries slow a player down. I haven't seen Hutchinson enough, but he just got paid like an elite pass rushers, and we all know that Parsons is. Who else is really elite? Crosby and Watt can rain terror, at times.  Hendrickson is good, but a Johnny-come-lately. Other guys seem to be on the same level as Burns. The days of Pep or Reggie White have been gone.
    • With Canales I'm not nearly as concerned about his mismanagement of the RB situation (which you could argue is being overblown to a degree yes) as I am with how woefully inept he is at preparing coaching and managing his team on gamedays against opponents and their coaching staffs with winning records. The team has been blown off the field too many times under his watch now. But I will concede that even if we fire him we will just end up with another figurehead of sorts. It's plainly obvious or at least it should be that our ownership is still meddling and pulling strings.
    • It's definitely not but what he and Darnold and now Jones are all doing does show that if you have a guy who checks a lot of the prerequisite boxes putting them in the right situation can make all the difference. The problem for the folks wanting to apply this logic to Bryce is that little "checks a lot of the prerequisite boxes" issue.
