The State of the Offensive Line: Will Taylor Moton Suffice?

Great deep post.  One thing I think is a positive in a way, is we find out what Moton can do at Tackle.  Everybody has discussed Matt Kalil's contract. (I know Kalil played much better the last 10 games or so)  We all know there is an out after this year, but as of yet, we have no prayer of a legit left tackle on the roster behind Kalil.  If Moton has great success on the right side, he has the build of a left tackle, and it's worth a shot.

If Moton starts at RT and excels this season, where does that leave DW and Kalil?

I imagine DW comes back on a one year prove-it deal the following year (health for us, ability for him). But do we then transition Moton to LT to replace Kalil (who I don't envisage being much more than an expensive JAG this year)? And bring DW back at RT?

My concern is the amount of movement on the line, which is necessary granted, could impact the long-term development. Not forgetting we'll need a new C next year...

From what I saw, Williams didn't get a lot of help from Turner. In fact if anyone wasn't that great last year it was Turner not Williams. Let's be real here, Williams was picked 2nd team all pro not probowl but all pro. So he was rated the second best right tackle in the league and there are folks on here giving their own opinion saying he isn't very good. Maybe it is me but it seems the guys who do the voting for all pro  might know more than a random fan on this website who has strong opinions and plenty of bias.  Plus from what I saw, Williams was stout at right tackle and might have helped Turner and Dickson as much or more than they helped him.

Wharton ended up playing tackle and guard for us moving from one side to the other with good results. He also happens to be an assistant line coach for us so he should be able to help anyone making the conversion

I agree.  We didn't invest anything in the line this off season.  Now we are already starting to pay for it.  Williams's injury is gonna hurt.

It's extremely early, but Moton has looked good and is super confident. Sirles has played significant snaps in this league effectively even if it hasn't been all pretty. Ultimately, we must be patient and wait for things to play out.

So let me get this straight. The loss of All Pro DW will not be that great because Saca believes he wasn’t really that good to start with, yet Bradberry, who looked like trash last year, is showing out based on one gif although he continued to look like trash in another gif? Hmmmm.

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
