Jets open to trading Bridgewater

Bridgewater is a good quarterback, but the question everybody had are draft time was whether he could take an NFL pounding. There's definitely evidence to suggest that he can't.

It probably makes more sense for him to be a backup.

Unfortunately, he doesn't really seem to want to be a backup.

Relevant Question: How many actual starting opportunities are there in the NFL right now?

Tampa makes sense given Winston's issues (and the fact that the team actually seems a little annoyed with him right now) but where else is there a real shot at being a week one starter?

Bills, Washington Football Team (for the future), Chargers (for the future), Denver, Bengals (future), Cardinals, Jags, dolphins, Vikings

Vikings aren't realistic. Besides the fact that theyre paying the net worth of a small country to Kirk Cousins, it's hard to imagine him going back to the team he just left.

Also hard to imagine the Redskins looking at anyone else as a starter after paying Alex Smith. And while it was only a two-year deal, Denver gave Case Keenum a pretty decent salary.

As to the others, a lot of those aren't necessarily desirable for various reasons.

If you go to any of the teams that just spent a first-rounder on a quarterback, you're basically just a placeholder. That takes the Bills and Cardinals out of the equation (also the Browns, and the Jets, of course).

Bridgewater likely wants to start right now, so future starting opportunities like the Chargers and Bengals are out.

The remaining two are debatable.

Regardless of what others think of him, the Jags don't really seem to be inclined to give up on Blake Bortles anytime soon. Likewise, Miami hasn't given up on Tannehill, though there's evidence that his position is somewhat shaky.

Tampa probably is his best shot at a starting spot. He'd just have to perform well enough for the team not to want to give the job back to Winston.

And actually, there's another division rival that would make sense if he'd be willing to wait a couple of years.

(I don't think he is, but this might be a smart choice if he changed his mind)

If Bridgewater were willing to wait for Drew Brees to finish his final seasons, his skill set would actually fit pretty well into Sean Payton's offense.

If I were making the choice for him, I'd take that over Tampa. Of course he'd have to be willing to accept delayed gratification (which nobody ever is these days) and who knows if New Orleans would be interested?

He may want a starting spot, but I just don't see it happening. The truth of the matter is that he was pretty mediocre as a starter when he was healthy. 6150 passing yards and only 28 TDs vs. 22 INTs.

He probably just needs to focus on securing NFL paychecks for as long as he can.

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
