Kalil absent again

Knee problem, his heart hasn’t been in football for a long time and short of the trade for Sean Gilbert, easily the worst Panthers free agent signing

Panthers knew Gross wasn’t going to play forever and did nothing

Here we are

again

they best be working up a trade for someone salvageable and for depth. Teams with putrid o lines don’t go far

water over the dam but that 3 cornerback draft to cover the Norman screw up stinks worse now

Better now than in the middle of the season. Still time to fix it. Not saying it isn't worrisome, but it's not dire...yet.

True, but basically there is only Friday's game vs. the Patriots for the starting line to play together with our 1s prior to Week 1 vs. Dallas.  The preseason game against the Steelers doesn't count for much....

It may for us this year. No, I don't think the starters will play much if at all...unless we acquire a new OT, which means the starting OL may play a series or two, with Larsen at C. As I said, it's worrisome, but not dire. We're gonna find out real quick if Hurney 2.0 is in fact a good GM if he needs to work a deal for a new OT.

Absolute truth.  Was just thinking this.  Hurney will have us all clamoring to build a statue if he can somehow turn this disaster with Matt Kalil into something positive.

Ok, I think I'm about commented out on this topic for awhile.  Back to number crunching defense snaps & stats.... I had to call it quits last night when my back started hurting too much to keep sitting at the computer.  I tweaked it yesterday.

Besides, all the practice in the world isn’t gonna help him. He is what he is.

Where would you rank Robert Quinn in defensive ends in the league? How do you believe he stacks up against the players Kalil has seen in practice thus far this year? Who on the market would be better at left tackle than Kalil?

Obtaining an existing tackle could be a really tricky situation.

Tackle depth is so bad across the league these days that even if a team did have someone they could conceivably spare, you'd likely have to pay through the nose to trade for him, if they're willing to trade him at all (certainly not guaranteed). On the flipside, anybody that a team is willing to part with via trade for a reasonable price is probably not that good.

Albert Breer has pointed out that drafting well is becoming more important than ever these days, and he's right.

Are you people high? Dude works indoors couple days a row in August and you're already filing his retirement paperwork lol

Like it our not, Matt Kalil is the only veteran tackle on our entire roster, there is no one better in free agency and the guys behind him are totally untested. He's not going anywhere. Crazy motherfugers around here I swear to god.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
