While I have never trusted Gettleman as being more than a scouting lifer, his position as GM for a franchise that is seemingly rudderless at sea these days probably forced him into a situation where he had to do an utterly foolish deal such as this.

With Manning on the sunset of his career, and Saquon having energized the fanbase a bit due to not having yet played a down in a regular season NFL game, Gettleman had to keep Odell in order to ensure that the fanbase does not go complacent and not buy tickets.

Having said that, the raw facts are that - based on a presumption that he maintains the good numbers that he produced when healthy - that he will be paid approx $200k per catch and/or $13k per receiving yard. It's a great time to be an NFL receiver...

QBs will be making double this amount and anyone thinking this is going to cripple the cap is delirious. This contract will count against 11% of the Giants cap next year. When Calvin and Julio originally signed their Mega extensions it counted for 13+ % of their teams cap.

Also need to take in account the inflated numbers...actually yearly aav is 16.4Mill.

No doubt he deserves it. If I were him I would want every penny also. 

However, from a team perspective, is spending this much for a wide receiver worth it. I would say no. A baller who can catch, block and run routes for $7 mil a year is more valuable to a team.

It's going to force more rookies to contribute if anything.   Drafting well is going to be mandatory to be successful.
