My question is,

Do you think Obada is as good or better than Horton

And if so would you be willing to cut a Horton to make room for Hall

Its just hard to bite and cut Hall.  Dude was a 3rd round pick with tons of potential and had to sit out his rookie season last year with a injury.

I didn't like the Hall pick then and don't now. He has just never been very productive, in college or in his limited time here.

He has the measureables, but that doesn't automatically make him a successful football player.

I liked the Hall pick... especially bringing him in under Pep... He's just been way too quiet this year and has been outplayed by all 3... Haynes, Cox, and Obada...

Hall is still PS eligible, though... so I think he makes it there.

It's scary that the thing you have to worry about most is RR's loyalty to certain people when it's blatantly obvious to everyone else that there are better options.

Obada has the hunger and drive to play for this team and contribute. Hall doesn't seem to have "it" IMO. This team needs passion. That's what Luke, TD and Cam bring onto the field every single game and there's no doubt this team could use some more of it.

I had hoped Hall would come back and really standout from basically having a redshirt year cuz we need it at DE. I gotta agree he has been outplayed by guys lower then him on the depth chart, also u gotta remember he is a Gettleman pick and Hurney has no ties to gettlemans investments. Who knows....we did trade extra pick to get him so maybe they dont give up just yet. I do want to keep obada and Haynes has better potential as a player to build up.

I see what you are saying.  Hall has only been effective on stunts--but I would say way too early to give up on him.  His strength was his biggest issue--so maybe he gets another hang nail  and goes to IR (weight room) for another year.  Obada can stay on the PS without costing us a spot-

I like what we have in the oven at DE--Haynes, Hall, Cox, Obada---if Horton, Peppers, and Addison can hold down the fort for a while, we could be solid.

I still say way too early to give up on Hall.  He is slowly improving and has a high ceiling.  Obada had a good preseason for sure.

My man you get it. Couldn’t of said it better myself. Between Haynes, Cox, Hall, & Obada & we can figure a way to keep them all. The future looks bright & sure will save us a lot of draft picks that can be used elsewhere. They have all flashed in different ways & it’s to early to give up on them. To me you need to give most De’s 3 yrs to work on hand placement, counter moves, strength, setting the edge. They have all shown to me huge improvements in a short time.

3 years is right--CJ, Hardy, even Rucker took 3 seasons to become elite.

Exactly correct, so Obada is more likely to end up on protected practice squad again with Hall given another year to learn from Pep.

I keep hearing Hall is doing a good job but since stats don’t show everything a offensive or defensive linemen does it’s hard to see it.

I think we keep Hall. Haynes has done well and should be a situational pass rusher.

we know Addison and Peppers are good. even if Peppers doesn’t play well and age catches up to him I believe he can do well with two Pro Bowl DT beside him. KK and Poe are going to help our DE get pressure.

Horton is the guy who I think can be a major surprise. He has always been a great run stopper but last year he quietly put up 5 sacks in a few games. If he can improve his pass rush maybe he could be a starter.

Hall will be the last DE on the depth chart and will basically just sit and learn. It takes a few years for DE to develop anyhow and he missed last year.

Obada doesn’t make the team in my opinion. He can be put on the practice squad and be protected from being picked up from other teams because he is an international player. If a injury occurs the team will bring him to the 53 man roster.

We have a lot invested in Hall and I don’t see the Panthers   giving up on him when he hasn’t even played in the regular season.

This is true. At the moment though if you can forget the draft investment on him he has not merited being on the 53. Everything about Hall is projection and reluctance to abandon him. Let me be clear, I actually remember thinking he might be a draft steal, in around the 5th. We badly over drafted him, reaching in the 3rd and giving up a 4th rounder in the process. I hope he can start to show his potential but do you really want to cut guys who are flashing because we over drafted Hall?

Sunk cost fallacy, so many will realize it in a couple more years. I hope Hall proves me wrong but I do not see the hunger in him like I do in Cox Jr or Obada.

    • That is just Panthers history pain speaking.
    • From what I gather, sure it allows you more room in that you can manipulate the cap more due to smaller prorated amounts to fit salaries in, but for cap purposes, you're still on the hook for the money at the end of the day.    "ChatGPT You said: What are the advantages for NFL teams to sign larger signing bonuses? ChatGPT said: NFL teams often use large signing bonuses as a strategic tool in contracts. While they cost real cash up front, they offer several advantages, especially when it comes to salary cap management, player retention, and negotiation leverage. Here's a breakdown of the benefits: ✅ 1. Salary Cap Flexibility Signing bonuses are prorated over the life of the contract (up to 5 years) for salary cap purposes. This allows teams to spread out the cap hit, even if the player receives the money immediately. Example: A $20M signing bonus on a 4-year deal counts only $5M/year against the cap. ✅ 2. Attracting Top Talent Players love signing bonuses because they're guaranteed money paid up front. Offering a bigger signing bonus can sweeten the deal without inflating yearly salaries. ✅ 3. Front-Loading Real Cash, Not Cap Teams with strong cash flow can pay big bonuses now while minimizing the immediate cap hit. Useful for teams trying to build around rookie QB contracts or with flexible cash budgets. ✅ 4. Locking in Key Players Larger bonuses make it harder for a player to be released early due to dead cap consequences. This can create more job security for the player and roster continuity for the team. ✅ 5. Leverage in Restructures Big signing bonuses create future cap hits via proration. Teams can later restructure deals (e.g., convert salary to bonus) to create even more cap space. ✅ 6. Competitive Edge In free agency, a team offering more guaranteed cash up front often wins the bidding war, even if the total contract value is lower than another team's. ⚠️ Key Caveat: Large signing bonuses increase dead cap risk if the player is cut or traded early."   I think that roster bonuses can be a useful tool if you're trying to keep players in by manipulating numbers and spreading the hit over time, but I don't think that it's something that you want to use unless it's "necessary." I don't know that you want to get into signing rookies on roster bonuses, as the bust rate is relatively high.
    • not even if that team in New Orleans disbands before the first game.  Saw one 2026 mock that had them drafting first next year.
