Rapoport on Panthers backup QB

I'm honestly unconcerned about the backup QB position. Dobbs to Carolina makes little sense. He's looked good enough in preseason to fetch a higher offer than we should be willing to provide.

I don't think he's actually that good when he's not playing against our backup secondary.

Word is the Steelers plan to keep Landry Jones, though some teams have expressed trade interest in him too.

(don't think he played at all last night; if he did, I missed it)

Newton's typically wrong so I'm leaning towards us going after Dobbs, which actually does make sense for both teams.

I trust Rapoport more than either of them.

That said, who knows?  This could go in a lot of different directions.

Rapoport's post didn't really seem like a report, more his observation of how Heinicke played and his logical guess that Heinicke is as of right now solidified as the #2. But that could change any moment with a trade...

We’re not trading for a QB. Why trade for a QB who would need to learn a new system in a matter of days and start him over the only QB on the roster with more than an off-season under Norv? This isnt Madden where you can plug in players in the depth chart based off of their overall rating. Heinicke is our #2 QB this season. Heinicke’s knowledge of Norv’s system and him outplaying GG is invaluable to us. If GG outplayed Heinicke I’d be all down for a trade but Heinicke being better than expected and being Cams second set of eyes is the best case scenario.

And if it all falls to poo with an injury to Cam we’ll be fuged with anyone after him anyway. Next year is the year we draft a young QB to back up Cam.
