Bill Voth: Panthers will not IR Williams or Amini

think those whispers a few weeks back of Williams being destined to begin the year on injured reserve were a bit misplaced. The hope has always been that he could avoid missing at least half of the season and his rehab has been going very well.

So I don’t see Williams or Silatolu heading to IR, and while I know many of you could disagree with this assessment, my guess is the Panthers think they're OK with their depth on the line after trading for Corey Robinson.

Interesting that Voth didn't mention Matt Kalil. Could Matt go on short-term IR to free up a space?

Wishful thinking probably. There just aren't going to be any decent starting tackles available this time of year.

Even more interesting perhaps, the strong hint that Trai Turner might be our week 1 right tackle

Is Robinson expected to start at tackle for the first few weeks at least?

It's possible but “expected” may be a bit aggressive. Robinson has just a few days to learn a new system, but at least it’s somewhat easier for tackles to do something like that than it is for centers and guards.

Because so many of their linemen can play multiple positions, we may see the Panthers get creative at tackle this week. And starting Wednesday, those injury reports will tell us a lot.

Matt will probably be back before the other 2. There was never any talk of him going to IR that’s why Voth didn’t have to address it.

Rap or someone was reporting today that Matt likely not back until after the bye. Won't be ready week 1 was stated quite definitely.

Amini will probably be back for week 1 it seems. He's been day to day for awhile.

Latest reports I've heard on Daryl say 3-4 weeks, i.e. maybe after bye.

As a falcons fan, really OK with the panthers Oline situation. As a football fan, I worry about Cam's health behind this Oline, esp. learning a new offense. I can see him taking a real beating behind that Oline. I really don't want Cam hurt, NFL is more fun when he's 100%.

    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
