Will we even miss Thomas Davis

When we drafted Luke I was one of the ppl that said TD should sit down.  Let the new rook play.

Obviously i was an idiot then and now. But, its time to let these old guys retire. In my mind...TD has played   1-2 years too many. If TD loves this team, and knows Shaq is waiting behind him....he should not even come back from suspension and just retire. Let the next man up come in and get play time with the greatest (Luke) before Luke himself becomes long in the tooth and begins to take a secondary role.

Olsen? Dude is done. Retire. Kalil? Great...but retire.  TD? Love you man....but retire. Take a coaching role.

Tepper is here. We are ready to win...right???

really is more like lose context and totally misunderstand what i said. But for sure carry on brother~

You clearly stated GO, RK, and TD to retire.... im not sure what your message was attempting to be but it was received as these players need to retire today.

However, ive read many of your posts, and I should take into consideration your communication skills are as impressive as Amini in any spot on the o line.

fug that, JR has nothing to do with TD. TD is a Panthers legend and one of the best people in the history of the league. Slowing down yes but still extremely useful in a lesser role and leadership position.

Sir, and I say that respectfully, but I have to disagree with you here.  JR was probably the sole reason we hung onto TD through those 3 ACLs.   Many teams would have cut the cord and moved on.   JR had a lot to do with him staying.

TD should have a role just because of his experience and leadership but as most have indicated it is time to pass the torch.  Shaq clearly is the next generation and TD should be happy all his tutoring has paid off.

There are three linebacker spots right? Why are we talking about TD coming off the bench?

Unless we are referring to big nickel... I believe Rivera stated that Shaq will be on the field for those packages because of his versatility.

We really don't use formations with 3 LBs that frequently, which is why Shaq has been standing on the sideline so much over his first 3 years.  In most formations between the 20's, we're using a nickel back.

Shaq looked like a stud out there. He was flying around and hitting dudes hard. I'm torn.

All of you were shitting on Shaq in the offseason and this is what he's capable of. Kinda sucks that we paid our aging LB and TE more money now.

clearly your perception is lacking. Reading and understanding the irony and nuance escapes you sir.

And Yet. All are on their last year. TD is the only one i would single out as staying too long and keeping a young and talented man down and way from play time. (SHAQ)

Olsen? Well nine games out last season..and now this foot? He is more or less a legacy player at this point. One we all want to see play again..and will cheer when he gets a catch or two. Sadly that seems to not be anytime soon.  Kalil? Well Kalil is awesome, but is set to retire.

If you read any of my posts...you know 2 things. 1. I say poo that is unpopular that fans that have their head up some anus .  2. I say things because i dont give a darn about making friends here or "pie". Heck...i dont even read replies if they dont come within the 20 minute window I am online. Many may say i am a troll. I am not. I dont do it on purpose...but wow people are so easy to troll even when its not my mission~

    • Sure it does, maybe not every position and not every draft.  You have to admit the hit rate goes down the further in the draft you get.  Would you more readily find a generational talent at the #2 pick or #19 pick?  High picks are considered "busts" if they doesn't pan out, whereas guys drafted later don't have that level of scrutiny upon them.  Different expectation levels.  If Styles does indeed go #2, I already listed the rarefied air that he would be in.  Maybe he doesn't set the League on fire, but my gut feeling is he does.  Again, you don't take an off-ball LB #2 if he is just a 'really good' player.
    • To illustrate my point, I watched (and commented on the Huddle) that Rozeboom would often wait a full second (or close to it) before taking his first step.  I assume that he probably had issues with false steps, a faulty practice that can take an ILB out of the gap completely.  Watch Luke and you see a step with the snap, and rarely was it a false step.  Rozeboom may have had 100 tackles (speculating) but initial contact was 2-3 yards on the defensive side of the ball.  Luke's 100 tackles were made 1-2 yards from the LOS.  Over the course of a year, Luke was much more productive (more fumbles, fewer long gainers, more OL penalties, fewer first downs, etc) that Rozeboom, but on the stat sheet, they both had 100 tackles.  In fact, Rozeboom's inefficiency kept him on the field more (more first downs, fewer OL penalties, turnovers, and punts) so he should have MORE tackles.   I would like to see stats that break down those things.   For example again, Josh Norman was slow--4.68 or so at CB.  However, his anticipation speed was incredible.  He made as many plays as a 4.4 CB.  I had one coach (college--later became the head coach at WCU) tell me that slower players have to use their brains more to still be around.  Elite athletes can just get by on their physical superiority.  He added, "Rarely does a football player run full speed.  Most of the time, they are not, so the 40 time is misleading stat.  Smart players overcome shortcomings--when the elite athlete becomes average (slows with age, advances in level of competition) they struggle against smarter (football IQ) competition.
    • Obviously tongue in cheek hyperbole. But we do not need a first round RB to competete for a championship. We need intelligent roster building. That to me is the complete opposite of intelligent roster building because it is a prime resource at a devalued plug and play position when we have needs across the defense.
