The Bills aren't the Carolina Panthers.

Star isn't there for tackles, he was there to occupy blockers and keep Luke clean.  Want to know why Luke has looked bad this year?  Look no farther than the DC change and losing Star.

Nah, I’ve seen a clean Luke shoot the wrong gap and over pursue all season long. He’s just making poor decisions.

Omg please can we stop blaming Washington. It’s Ron’s defense.

Not only this but this team has invested heavily in the offense in the drafts whereas in years past it was in the defense in order to maintain our elite top 5 D.

We cannot expect the defense to stay elite while focusing on the offense in the draft for the past 2/3 years. We need to start expecting this offense to put up 30+ points and win games for us instead of expecting the defense to win the game for us anymore.

Of course Ron's 1990 playcalling is going to make the extremely difficult whether we have the pieces for it or not. But it's obvious our new direction towards investing the offense means the defense will not be winning games for us and someone needs to tell Ron.

The offense should be the focal point of the game plan. Instead we play ball control

Yep. Holding the skins to only 24 points on the road after THREE turnovers is acceptable from the defense...I mean it's pretty clear this team's coaching has no idea how to get points up on the board, and personally I think the pieces are there.

Luke hasn't forgotten how to play linebacker.  He, and the entire defense are off this year, and that leads me to believe it's coaching and getting accustomed to a new DC.

We should get better defensively as the season goes on, unfortunately, Ron will lean on them vs. the offense to win games.

I think it’s a cop out. Do people actually think we’re all of a sudden running a brand new defense. Ron is still here and will always be heavily involved on that side of the ball. A new DC shouldn’t be an excuse.

We are certainly running a different style of defense, with a new playcaller, doing a job he's never done before.

At the end of the day, we are playing zone defense, and getting no push from the front 4.  That's going to make everyone look worse than they should.

He looked great against Dallas then idk what happened

Everybody looked great at Dallas.  We played such an aggressive style that day challenging receivers and blitzing.  I don't know what this loiter ball soft zone crap is now.  I understand we weren't afraid of their receivers, but the Skins didn't have anything outside either.  Its like another post I read where Washington and Wilks are opposite sides of the spectrum.  We need Mcdermott to hurry up and get fired.

Especially since the league is literally legislating defense out of the game.  You can't intimidate with big hits are play with any kind of physicality.  While on offense you can practically do whatever you want, we are too focused on defense.

It's Ron philosophy to keep everything in front of them, but everything else is Washington. The blitzes, the gap control, the coverage calls... there's no way in hell if Ron completely take over the D we'll be this bad.

If he sits by while it is this bad, doesn’t that fall on him as well?

What we need is a team that doesn't care, takes the penalties, so fear gets instilled in the league. Pay the fines. Tell goodell to go fug himself, and just be the biggest heels in the industry. The DX of defenses.

    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
    • Football is not the professional sport where timidness and apprehension are justly rewarded.
    • Bryce Young had a super high floor definitely at least won't be a bust safe pick we allegedly had seen in some time.......and went on to have one of the worst rookie seasons of all time.  They are all lotto picks.  And that is especially true for whatever they will be day 1 in the NFL.  I don't think Tmac is a sure thing year 1.  It's not like we watched him do his thing in the SEC.  He was a PAC12 guy.  I'm sure it will take time
