Realistic DE trade targets

Who is out there that is a realistic trade option? I think we all agree that a defensive end would really give this defense what it needs to make the push towards the post season. Who is out there that we could afford that would potentially be available.

My choice would be Jabaal Sheard from the Colts. He makes around 7.5 million this year and next and his salary next season isn't guaranteed. The Colts aren't doing a damn thing this year and may be willing to part ways with him for a mid to late round pick to allow some younger guys to get playing time.

I couldn't really find any other veteran DE's on reasonable contracts on bad teams.

Who we gonna cut or restructure to create cap room? is the better question.  Cause right now we can’t afford to trade for anyone.

There is another option. We don't have room to trade future picks and gain salary, but trading salary is always an option (although usually not desirable). Fore example, if a team with a DE we like is interested in Cameron Artis Payne, including him in the deal frees a few hundred thousand on the cap. TD could gain a couple million. (I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT PROPOSING A TD TRADE. ONLY USING HIM AS AN EXAMPLE)

Hasn't played a down of quality football in almost 3 years. The only one that can't handle the truth (the fact Hardy's NFL career is done) is you.

Played in the Spring and Arena League’s.  A 30 year old All-Pro with the tread of a 25 year old.  In phenomenal shape.  With experience, now no drugs or alcohol, motivation, and MMA fine motor skills, would be better than ever.  Would be the second best player on this D from day 1.

I don't know why this is getting pooed on.  I love it.

You must not know this board or the sheep that are the human species.  Believing what the masses tell them instead of seeking their own truths based on facts.  Either that or desperately needing TRT.

Many here may have even been in BOA the last time he AND THE MEDIA were full-go in a Panthers uniform at home-a nationally televised Sunday night preseason game vs Kansas City in 2014 when he was vociferously cheered without backlash.

Posted this before but I'll post it again even though he isn't exactly a DE.

Lorenzo Alexander from the Bills. He is PFF's highest graded EDGE defender and their 10th highest graded player overall. He is 35 and in the last year of his contract so the Bills are not really likely to want to bring him back while they rebuild and they are obviously not going anywhere this year so he could very likely be had for very cheap. Likely a 6th or 7th would do it. He is making $2.5M this year so we don't need to do much to make room for him. We have a good trading relationship with Buffalo. He plays in McDermott's defense so there would be very little adjustment period to play in ours.

The negatives are that this is truly a half season rental with really no future use for him at his age and he is really a 3-4 OLB rather than a 4-3 DE with his size at 6'1" 245 but McD is making it work with him in their defense. Surely we can just plug him into ours in the same role they are using since it's basically identical. Maybe just use him as a pass rush specialist on 3rd downs and at the end of games. As a bonus he might be able to impart some knowledge on how to play as an EDGE at his size to Marquis Haynes.

To me he is the best combination of cheap and productive that could realistically be available.

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
