NFL.com: Top 10 2018 rookie classes

6) Carolina Panthers

A ballhawk tied for the league lead with four interceptions, second-round cornerback Donte Jackson is NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger's early choice for Defensive Rookie of the Year. First-round wideout D.J. Moore has flashed Percy Harvin-like power and elusiveness with the ball in his hands, generating big plays as a receiver as well as a runner. His recent ascension to the starting lineup has allowed Assistant Coach of the Year candidate Norv Turner to dip into his bag of tricks, bedeviling defenses with end-arounds, double-reverses and sweeps. Fourth-round tight end Ian Thomas started three games in place of Greg Olsen and may be the future at the position in Charlotte.

I'm sorry this just kills me that we drafted a WR in the first round for gimmick plays.

It's how we used Steve Smith until he developed into a well-rounded receiver.

Yeah, because everyone knows gimmick yards don't really count. I mean, c'mon man. I bet if there were awards for how you move the ball down the field, you'd be all over this.

We drafted a raw WR for YAC potential and the ability to improve. We are using him in the ways he is ready to contribute in the interim and there is nothing wrong with that.

Because that’s the only thing Moore will ever be able to do...

trade him for a sack of potatoes

    • Ideally every player would win the job in a fair competition. Beat out the guy in front of you. If you can.     If XL is in front of a draft pick, the draft pick needs to beat him out. Whoever is in front of him.  Should be the way of the world.     Aside from that if they do want to trade XL they should give him a chance to rehabilitate his rep and up his value. Showcase.   But then if he proves he is worth something you want to trade him away?  I do  no t think we would save all his guaranteed money, for one.  Not sure though.     And finally, today I posted about Bryce throwing it away on 4th down.   It got me thinking of the mental stuff with XL. What Bryce did was just about as bad as XL’s mental lapses in terms of being ignorant.   I bet there are some Bryce supporting XL haters here, that one is for you.
    • There were a lot of moments that went like that for us in that one. The cotchery no catch absolutely demolished a promising drive that felt like was leading to points. The sack fumble with Cam came right after that play.
