soft zones only work if your team is a bunch of swarming aggressive ballhawks who will come up and hit a receiver or RB on a short catch and keep it short. if you miss tackles, then you're done. you lose. the entirety of our team except Peppers, Reid, and TD are whiffing tackles.

Jackson? Luke? Also Reid has missed his share of tackles trying to blow people up.

i edited jackson in before your quote. luke has missed his fair share of tackles (or just been out of position altogether). reid has missed some and so has TD for the same reason, but overall they have both been consistent.

Luke hasn't been out of position more that team's are killing our edge because Addison doesn't seal and Shaq/Capt is terrible. Your not wrong about the soft coverage either. It's honestly the medium routes to TEs and the slot WR we give up the most. Digging deeper the problem is that we don't have a nickel CB, Safety, or LB who can defend that. Still there should be some kind of adjustment to prevent it.

the league hates us so much they allow teams to hold our front four. teams hardly get a holding call when they play us. it's all rigged.

No offense Rum, i don't mean this personally toward you...

But I am so f*cking tired of the "NFL hates the Panthers" excuse. Just f*cking win, and be so dominant when you win that no amount of ref interference is gonna make a difference. Of course, Ron Rivera doesn't have that attitude, so it'll never happen under his leadership.

And don't misunderstand, this isn't a "fire Ron" comment. The Panthers have been and will again be Super Bowl worthy under Ron. We will win games under him. But some of the more frustrating aspects of this team's culture won't change until, for better or worse, Ron is gone.

The Panthers have completely flipped from a bend but don't break defense to a defense that is good between the 20s but HORRENDOUS inside the redzone. To me this comes down to play calling and personnel substitutions. The redzone is all about matchups and Washington's defense is failing miserably at matching up appropriately.

Rivera's complacency about the defense is shocking to me. This is a season where at year's end we could possibly see Kalil, Olsen, TD, and Peppers walk away. Four HOFers leaving your squad....and you have zero urgency at taking over a unit that has excelled every year until this year? IMO that is fireable if it doesn't get turned around.

I like Rivera as much as the next guy but to me it would be unforgiveable for him to ignore a problem on his staff in what really could be an "all or nothing" type of year. We have some nice players behind those guys I just mentioned. But I have a really hard time believing that we could lose that much veteran leadership and production without a massive drop off. Especially if the defense is not the stalwart that it has been in the past.

Cam is perfectly capable overcoming deficits when the defense is giving up the occasional TD and mostly field goals. Get behind by 17 like we have been recently and its just not happening routinely with the way we play.

Shaq, Capt, is not good. On several plays  I saw that we were in position to tackle but for some reason we didn't. Holding and arm tackling is what I saw. We used to swarm to the ball but we do not anymore I saw 3 guys around a rb or we and no one engaged they just stood there and the player gained an extra 3 to 4 us a. I mean some of its on the players but mostly coaching .

that combined with the past drafts focusing on offense his defense

You talking about the past draft where Carolina drafted 2 players on offense as compared to 6 players on defense?

Or the past 2 drafts where Carolina has drafted 6 players on offense as compared to 8 players on defense?

Or the past 3 drafts where Carolina has drafted 7 players on offense as compared to 12 players on defense?

Or the past 4 drafts where Carolina has drafted 10 players on offense as compared to 14 players on defense?

Or the past 5 drafts where Carolina has drafted 13 players on offense as compared to 17 players on defense?

Or the past 6 drafts where Carolina has drafted 15 players on offense as compared to 20 players on defense?

Talking about high draft picks and ‘weapons’...not amount number wise.

Past the 4th round I don’t consider an ‘investment’ for obvious reasons.

In the time period I previously quoted you, in rounds 1-4, the Panthers have selected 10 players on offense and 12 players on defense.

In rounds 1-3, the Panthers have selected 7 players on offense and 10 players on defense.

What's your next excuse?

Yeah Shaq as a TD replacement is increasingly worrisome. With those three LBs and the amount of nickel we play...there shouldn’t be any other LBs getting reps. Shaq as a 3rd year LB should be able to do what Luke and TD have been able to do in the past which is fill in at any LB position and he can’t.
