Cutting Short looks good as a Post June 1 for 2019, but it rips us a new one in 2020 with 8 million in dead money.  If you do both Short and Kalil you're going to be staring at 18 million in dead cap for 2020.  You can't do them both in one year.  Pick your poison.

All this cap space and I’m not sure it will help us improve the team too much due to the weak free agency class.

 

 

 

No benefit to June 1 from Smith, Searcy or Cockrell. 2019 is their last year on the current contract. 

And about the "all this cap space", we're in the bottom 3rd of the league in available space. If another team wants to outbid us, they likely can.

That's really the trick, right?  To a layman's eyes, I don't see 9 million worth of production from Shaq - and he had an honest chance earlier in the year in the spot everyone projected him into.

Now, what I haven't seen is any examples of veteran players with comparable production in that position who are currently making less.  I'd love to look at some comparisons, and it's something I would hope the Panthers do as a staff as well.  Nine million is a lot.

 NO WAY we attempt to make Olsen repay signing bonus if he is forced to retire due to a injury. Not win-able. We didn't even try that with Oher at 2 million a year.  The message that sends is "come to Carolina, give us your all, and IF you get hurt, we'll want the money back". Count on 3.7 mill cap hit  for 2019 & 2020 if he has to retire.
