We are in all-too-familiar territory

The good news:

Rivera is undefeated in games where his job seems to be on the line.  We will steal a victory from the jaws of mediocrity on Sunday.

The bad news

It seems that every time we become mathematically eliminated (essentially) from a playoff spot we go on a win streak that kills our draft seeding.

Rivera will allow Cam to play hurt to help his chances of clinging to a job. He has allowed him to play hurt in meaningless games before.   Before you get mad at him, ask yourself, "What would I (meaning "you") do?

This offseason...

Could be one of the most interesting in team history, especially if RR is fired.  Veterans like Davis, Peppers, Olsen, Kalil I and II, Adams, etc. are likely to be out.  I was looking over the roster, and I count 20 players who could be/should be in their final season.  That is almost 40% of the roster.   Interesting decisions concerning contracts will be critical to this team's long term success (Funchess, Williams, etc).

I think he needs to be on the bench tomorrow.  I really feel the only way Cam goes to IR is if RR goes to Unemployment.

If he can play, he can play. We aren't eliminated from the playoffs yet and he is the leader of our team. Cam has been missing time in practice due to his shoulder all year. It is only a story now because we just found out he might need surgery after the season, which would have been the case anyway. The same shoulder he played on last week is the shoulder he played on during our 6-2 start. Its only a big deal now because we are losing. Cam should IR if the season is lost but not when there is still hope.

Thank you. Cam is making more than any other player on the team and is the leader. If he sits over a sore shoulder then why should anyone play with  a sore body part. Olsen wouldn't have come back, Reid would be sitting weeks ago and so forth.  Cam should IR if playing him presents a higher risk of being injured than would be the case if he were healthy. This isn't tiddly winks, it is football.

This is the core of the issue. At this point half of the people here are ready to give up on Cam. The other half will ride him into the dirt like RR has. Cam has never really been known for accuracy, and now dealing with the idea of a second surgery not even one year after the last one.

That said..Cam's "sore shoulder" is a bit different than x players sore whatever. Sore shoulder to a QB means more or less a HUGE dropoff.  I am personally of the opinion to sit him now. Whether we win the next game or not...we wont seriously have a chance to beat any team in the playoffs. We have Cam for a few more years under this contract. No need to break him any farther than he already is. Let him heal as best as he can...ride his contract out...but begin looking for/drafting a replacement

Some good points. I wish we could have discussions like this rather than the ones we see in this thread and others with hysterical opinions and conspiracy theoroes and extreme characterizations. If Cam limits the offense because no one respects the deep ball or Cam stops running because it increases the likelihood of injury he should sit if Heinicke gives us the better chance to win. After all he gets the majority of practice reps these days and might be the better option if Cam is limited. But as long as Cam is the better option and doesn't risk more injury than is always the case when you play, he should play. If we sit him and play Heinicke it could be a good opportunity to see if he is a keeper or not.

I don’t think many if any are “giving up” on Cam I think most people in favor of ir are so because a) they don’t want to risk further injury and b) they’re not happy about RR running our franchise quarterback into the dirt to save his job.

The issue is the GM and Coach want Cam out there now because he gives them the best chance to win now. And you play to win games. Losing games means they lose their jobs. The players want Cam to play because he can still play well above average with his shoulder how it is. He had one disaster game this week against the Bucs but there is no reason he can't be the guy he was most of the season. Those WRs need their stats. The TEs need their stats to get paid. When it comes time to sign guys in the offseason the other teams won't care that Taylor can't cut it as a NFL starting QB they will see you had 40 receptions for 550 yards and 3 tds for the year and thats how you will get paid.

Aaron Rodgers came back from injury because his team was in the playoff hunt one year, lost some games so it became clear they couldn't win into the playoffs and went back on IR. Here we are just a season or two later and people question his leaderships abilities. Part of leading your guys is being out there with them. Why should anyone play hurt for you if you won't play hurt for them? Until we have a better option at QB, Cam should be out there. Now we can be smart with how we play Cam. If we are up 3 scored midway through the third, sit him. If we are down 3 scores in the 3rd, sit him. This is how you give Taylor time to play against NFL starters without making your star QB look like he is only in this for himself.
