Beason on Rivera

Cam Newton isn't going anywhere as far as Tepper is concerned. He really seems to love him some Cam. Steelers changed coaches kept Big Been. Cam's gonna get his. A healthy Cam is MVP level and a dual threat.

Coming from the Steelers organization I don't see wholesale change. It would be very Steeler-like to release a coach and promote a guy on staff already.

I don't think Tepper will make the call on Cam.  For one, he will leave it up to the medical team.  If his shoulder problems look to be chronic or if there's a strong likelihood that he may never be the same again, then I don't see his personal feelings about Cam influencing the decision on Cam's future in Carolina.  He won't sacrifice winning because he likes someone.  (Again, before the mob kicks in, I'm only saying if the medical reports indicate his shoulder will never be what it once was).

Tepper is also a guy that believes in letting the people do their jobs.  From the reports I've seen, he's not a micromanager who tells people how to specifically do their jobs.  He sets the objectives and only steps in when the job isn't getting done the way he wants.  So, I think, assuming he does let Hurney and Rivera go, that he will hire a GM and let him make the call on the coach along with all personnel decisions...including Cam.  And I really don't think he will make a GM hiring decision based on whether or not they want Cam.  Rather, it will be on a more broader idea of their vision for the team.

I'd agree.

The thing about the Steeler approach is it's very dispassionate. They don't factor in sentiment about player histories, just whether or not they can help us win right now.

I've said before I think that's going to be a culture shock for some, and probably will lose Tepper some goodwill from fans. But the honest truth is it's the best approach to building a consistent winner.

Lots of Panthers fans will suffer broken hearts watching their favorite players getting traded or cut in order to sustain a winning culture that lasts more than a single season.

If it finally happens, it will have only taken a quarter century of Panthers mismanagement as well as a change in ownership to figure it out.

Juat made me realize...I've been watching this team for almost half my life.

Lord have mercy :fear:

Yes, for those of us that have been there since the Panthers inception, it has been a long and winding road.

Well this road hasn't quite "run to my heart" yet. It's gotten close a couple of times.

Other times it's thrown my heart on the floor and kicked it repeatedly :fear:

Beason also recognizes that Rivera could be out of a job, contrary to what Steve Smith speculated.

Side Note: The WFNZ guys mentioned that Rivera is moving his press conference tomorrow from its usual 11am time to a little after 8am. They speculated it might be a way to get fewer media folks to show up.

Steve also said yesterday on fnz that after seeing the game Sunday it is possible that Tepper could make a change

however, he also said, more less, that all the ancillary changes from firing a HC might be more than Tepper, an owner of 6 months was not willing to take on...ancillary meaning, all the scouts, more changes for Newton with system change, etc

Hiring a GM would fix that

I think Rivera had this smirk on his face with his 5% bullshit because he knows in 3 weeks after 3 more crushing losses, he will be out of a job, and wont have to listen to these bullshit questions anymore. Why can't someone ask the question: After knowing how Pathetic these last 5 weeks look to the leaders in your organization and to fans, what is gonna change the last 3 weeks so that you get to look at Joe Person's dipshit haircut for another year?

    • Lol. The Texans are literally one of Bryce's six career NFL wins. WTF are you talking about?
    • Yeah, I mean it is a statistical fact and also part of literally a player evaluation. Winston has literally lost dozens of games in his NFL career due to crippling TO's. It's just who he is. Look, it's fun when those insane throws work and he is leading you back from some crazy deficit. But those success are rare. It's why his career GWD count is so low. He's fun but he is fundamentally built to lose games.  If you are talking about a backup QB, you are literally already losing in the first place. That's how you see a backup QB and that's overwhelmingly what they tend to do. Rookie QB's almost always benefit from veteran QB's. Same as literally any other position in the NFL. Why do you think that you so often hear that from the playera themselves? As for Bryce NEEDING one, no he sure as poo shouldn't this late in the game. But he also shouldn't have needed this fuging long to get his fuging footwork straightened out either. Yet here we are.
    • Comfortability is the primary reason. They don't want to hurt Bryce's confidence. But I say if his confidence is that fragile that healthy competition which makes everyone better is enough for them to keep making Andy Dalton rich then Bryce was never going to be the guy anyway. Give me the QB who sees the competition amongst his peers and uses it to take it to the next level. Instead we get the guy who comes out looking like a deer in the headlights against the Texans after we've done everything possible to appease him. Definition of complacency.
