It’s funny how with the same footwork he’s been completing those passes all season. He is clearly compensating, but hey let’s throw cam under the bus while we do everything in our power to absolve the moron head coach from blame.

Very few if any are still resolving the coach, we know he should go...

We're talking about what's going on with Cam. As in, when Rivera is gone next year, what Cam will we see?

Lol where was Steve smith when cam was playing the best football of his career earlier in the season. Steve smith is a joke. Still upset how things ended here. A shame he’s the face of this franchise. Give Julius, Cam, and Luke over him every day of the week.

Steve isn't the face of this franchise to anyone except himself, his jilted fanboys and the Saints fans who still have nightmares about him.

Cam is the face of the franchise if you ask 99% of the public who follow football at all.

Mention Cam's name in a negative context = profit 10 times out of 10 for these talking heads. It's been the same song and dance for nearly a decade. Very few of these guys mention it or compliment him when he's winning with his team.

Wasn't he in the MVP talks at one point in the season? Remember when he was 14 of 14 passing in a game? He can't be that wildly inconsistent. Absolutely he has things he needs to work on as a passer. But there are multiple mitigating circumstances that have led to this point.

We really need to finally build a capable OL. The likes of turnstiles like Byron Bell, Nate Chandler, Mike Remmers, Matt Kalil, and others have been the theme throughout Newton's career.  You can remove Cam from the equation and replace him with any other QB, but the results aren't going to be any better when those are consistently the level of starters you are plugging in along your offensive line. Honestly you are likely to get your QB hurt, because IMO if that were any other QB the last 8 years the guy would be on IR more often than not.

Cam is in a slump and he's lost his confidence because guys around him packed it in the first week of November. He's banged up, sure, but he needs some time off regardless. I think he'll be fine next year, but I don't look for his numbers or performance to deviate much in the next few weeks from the last few.

the more you use your upper body to create velocity, the more tired you get. couple that with back-to-back 40+ attempts, i think it explains it very well.

The better explanation for me is that the more wear you put on an injury, the more problems it causes.

I'll grant that doing something the wrong way for a long time can cause unnecessary wear and tear on your body though.

lots of things in this discussion are true and not either/or's.

bad footwork

arm thrower

shoulder soreness and weakness

bad o'line forever, no room to step into throws

he's 6'5" tall and long.  he needs more room than many others to step into his throws in the first place.  sometimes i think that's why he became an arm thrower, or poor coaching early in life.

it's all in play and smitty is getting paid to talk crap because a lot of the rest of the nation eats it up.

I don't know if he's lost his confidence but it is crazy seeing people questioning his dedication to his craft now after years of tearing him down for daring to play the game with swagger and confidence. He's been dogged left and right for celebrating too much. Mom's sending in angry letters. Ridiculed over a towel. Don't do the first down point. Don't get so mad about losing. If he's finally lost his confidence then he's finally accepting losing the way this fanbase has wanted from the word go. The culture of accepting mediocrity that Jerry Richardson instilled and cultivated. It's what the fans deserve. They got what they wanted. Don't cry about it now.

Not really a justification given that Cam has been in the league...how many years?

If anything he is digging on Cam, as if to say that after all these years, Cam either can't, or simple wont learn better footwork.

i believe that too.  maybe for the first time he see's his mortality and will change.  but i tell myself that every year.  and i love cam.  i really wish he worked on his footwork more.  (like brees)

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
