The statue is back in the news

If you're contractually obligated to keep it, it certainly must be protected against damage, some of which has been mention in this thread. I suggest the statue immediately be protected by encapsulating in in solid concrete. Form it up and pour it in.

Im torn here.  He got the Carolinas a franchise and deserves credit and to be remembered for that.  

On the other hand he did some vile stuff that has set our franchise back years, brought a ton of negative attention and has left a stain on this club.  

Im on the side that the bigger than life statue needs to go...well just the statue of him should go, the Panthers are really cool.  Tepper should find another way to honor him.  Maybe name all of the unisex bathrooms after him?  Maybe create some sort of a fenced in garden on the outside of the stadium so people have a place for their dogs to poo.  Rename Mint St....I dunno.

So Tepper wants statue gone but can't remove it himself. He hatches a plan. He goes to people in the organization and finds out who has been victimized by Jerry in the past. He tells them that is they make a big enough fuss, the city will take it down. 

 

But honestly, who feels so threatened by a statue that they have PTSD seeing it or because trey didn't get an apology? If you signed a NDA then you agreed to be ok with what he did to you and why are you saying something now?

Richardson’s ego is gigantic, it’s in incredible bad taste that he requires that statue stay.  Remove it and let him sue.  That’d be a great look for him.

It should have never been put up in the first place.  If his "friends and partners" wanted to honor him they should have started a foundation for battered and abused women.

That's all I have to say about that.

I mean, these victims were told by their lawyers, hey you can have 3 million dollars and stfu about it and sign this agreement OR you can attend court dates and possible trials for the next 3-5 years in which you'll constantly revisit your traumatic event, expose yourself to the public, pay for legal representation, take time off work, testify against a billionaire that won't live another 5/10 years, likely until the end of the whole legal proceedings, and at the end of the day he'd get a slap on the wrist and flamed by social media for a month while you get nothing or at most a statue removed.

Sucks but, pretty easy choice.

Can we please leave the two Panthers. They represent the two Carolinas.  They are statues of two predatory cats. They are not sexist, misogynist, racist, or ( insert "oppressed"group here)-phobic. They're just a couple of big cool looking cats.

For the record, it was reported that the contract prevents the statue from being removed, hidden or altered in pretty much any way. Hence, Tepper's statement that he was contractually obligated to leave it "as is".

Outside of the statue though, Tepper has reportedly had all other traces of Jerry Richardson even existing removed from Bank of America Stadium, so it doesn't sound like he exactly reveres the man.

Might have been just to get his ass out.

Gantt reported that in the last month or so before the sale, Richardson was getting pretty cranky, telling people things like "I don't have to sell this team" on a pretty frequent basis.

So here we are.

The best possible strategy for doing something about it appears to be going through the city of Charlotte rather than the team, but I can't help thinking Tepper might be able to help facilitate that somehow.
