And here's where we get tricky...

There's been some chatter before that Rivera is too paranoid to hire anybody who has the potential to replace him unless he's already friends with them and trusts that they won't try to supplant him.

Valid? Don't know, but I suppose you could make a case.

Wouldn’t Norv fit into this category?

No, because Norv A) is a trusted friend, and B) was threatened with bodily harm by his wife if he ever took another head coaching job.

By his own statements, Turner wasn't looking to be a coach at all. He was comfortably retired unless "the right situation" presented itself.

If I'm being honest, I think as much as anything Norv is coaching right now primarily to help Scott move up in the ranks.

True, but if he doesn't get one of those jobs I'd prefer him to Perry Fewell.

(and I'd prefer anybody to Richard Rodgers)

Fewell, Pagano, and potentially Wilkes if the Panthers are interested in bringing him back to where he had most of his success as an NFL coach.

Rivera's background is as a secondary coach. I expect that he's looking for somebody on the same page as him to help lighten the load of DC.

Rivera was a linebacker coach.

There was a press conference or an interview not too long ago where he mentioned his background in the secondary, though I might have misinterpreted when he said that his history was in the back 7 (it must have been related to Washington being demoted?)

Linebacking corps would be considered part of the back seven (or the front seven, depending on what you're talking about).

    • I have not read this yet as it was just posted. I’ll see if there is any juicy details and post them up.
    • And the QB before Rattler was worse! People are like well he only had one year of production. Analysts and malcontents always move the goal posts when they want.
    • The 5th year allows tons of leverage when it comes to new contract talks. It's like having 20% more control of a contract. It allows cheaper numbers, cause well you have that 5years compared to 4. Plus you also have 6th, 7th, and 8th(I think) tagged years. Sure the QB doesn't play on it, but it allows teams to lower their offers given the years of control.  The deal with penix is he's also old too, so that 3rd year he's going to be 26/7 unlike 23.  You are also looking at the best side that penix can play and needs a new contract. It could easily be he's a bust and thus wasted this important era. The failcons should be comfy in the playoffs barring injuries. Now they missed on adding a edge making a key sack in the playoffs, to having spend the 8th overall on josh Rosen.  Honestly they should have drafted Rome Odunze. Pitts, Robinson, Allgeier, London, with a *healthy cousins.....that's 5/6 big problems for defenses. Most days they'd be able to drop 40.  Im super happy they didn't, but ask again in 3 years and I may regret.....
