Kyle Bailey suggests defense going 3-4 is an option

On his radio show today, Kyle Bailey said he was told by two different people that the Panthers are looking at switching their defensive scheme to a 3-4 next year.

He added that this pending change may have been one of the reasons Thomas Davis wasn't considered for a return. Davis has himself stated that he wouldn't be a good fit in a 3-4 defense.

Now while I don't see Bailey as a guy who makes sh-t up just to create a buzz, I have to say I don't really buy that this is going to happen.

So to be clear, I post this because it was put out there, not because I believe it. Draw your own conclusions.

Maybe we do like the Pats and play a mix of both. Would like that. Otherwise don't like a drastic change to full 3-4 for no reason, takes time to implement something like that and wouldn't be worth it unless we had a new coaching staff changing it.

you have to have 3 studz on the line to do this..oh yea. Donitari Hoe qualifies..

Poe actually fits better at NT in a 3-4, and I think Short could excel at 3-4 end. Other than that though we have nobody who fits at LB or DL edge... maybe Haynes but he's unlikely to actually turn into anything.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
