Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

I think some team is going to draft Metcalf thinking they're getting the next Calvin Johnson only to find out they actually got the next Kelvin Benjamin.

I'll be shocked if this guy isn't Darrius Heyward-Bey part 2. Mediocre college production with otherworldly measurements and workouts.

I’m not expecting him to either, and from a team standpoint,it would be better if he didn’t because a better fit player may fall in that case, however I’m not 100% opposed to not drafting Metcalf if he’s on the board, I feel like Rivera should be able to field a top 12 defense with what we have currently on the roster.

Metcalf looks the part as far as potential to be the next dominate WR. I don’t know if you can pass on that If our blue chip guys are off the board or rated slightly lower

Top 12 defense?

DE - Two 31 year old rotational guys

DT - Short, but who else.... TBD

LB - lost TD... how will this affect Luke

No FS worth a damn currently

We need DE help, so I really hope we don't go with a WR in the first. I think there's  good value after the first round if we want a rookie WR in this draft. I'm not saying we draft for need at 16, but the DE/DT are stacked in the first round, and fall off a deep cliff in the early 30s of the 2nd round.

Seeing how the defense performed after Ron took over, and us making some additions by subtractions I could see it happening, now that’s not to say let’s go all in on offense in the draft. There’s not going to be a day 1 game changer at de at 16 barring Bosa getting caught doing something silly before the draft, so I think all options are on the table

Metcalf could easily drop. Sure his combine may be like Julio, but Julio was a stud producer. Metcalf could easily drop to us. He’s the prototypical combine workout warrior who wasn’t even the best actual WR on his own team There are a bunch of guys who I definitely don’t think will be there (Bosa, Quinnen, Allen, Oliver after pro-day and Murray). There’s not a single other guy you can say “no way” to after that. All of them could end up at 16 if things fall right.

He has Raiders written all over him. They need another WR with Jordy Nelson retiring to take pressure off AB. He will be in Black and Silver on draft night.

Now that I think about it, if he does fall he could fit the BPA depending what DE's are left. If Sweat/Burns are off the board he could be a player Hurney/Ron would consider.

Even though I love Moore/Samuel being the starters, we still lost a starting big body WR in Funchess and we didn't replace him. Metcalf could be possible even though I wouldn't like it.

Ron said he still wants to add more weapons around Cam on offense in his ESPN interview in February.

Assuming Murray goes number 1 or the Raiders don’t ike a DL. Al Davis doesn’t run the show anymore so if that’s who you think will take him you are probably mistaken. They’ve had private visits with Haskins, Gary, Oliver, Quinnen and Allen and not with Metcalf.

smokescreen they trying to scare other teams to trade up for Haskins so they can get more picks.

I think Metcalf is a good compliment to Samuel and Moore, that makes it where Moore and Samuel can play more slot/gadget type. Injury to Moore or Samuel and we’re back to worst WR group in the nfl.

I personal could see us going WR in the 2nd if a guy falls that has a 1st round rank

@Verge I saw you had Metcalf in your mock to us in the first, how highly do you have him rated or you buddy ?

It's not realistic that he'd drop to us, but that's who the site I was using dropped in my lap, so I took him.

    • No you dont.  He had all those records for years before his final season. Whether career or season he had them all years before his final season in which he played 6 games.
    • Williams covered for Moore by saying they were on the wrong page about Moores specific route. Williams could have easily covered for him by saying he messed up. Suggesting only 1 route was ever intended to be a viable target is absurd.
    • I am going to agree with Linville this time--I think we need to get a veteran edge (We have Jones II, Scourton, and Princely--2 developmental guys and a decent veteran).  We don't really think of Jones because he had a hamstring injury weeks 3 and 4 and a back that required surgery Week 6-17.  He still managed 10 pressures, and he will be 28.  Princely Umanmielen only played in approximately 18-20% of the snaps and he struggled at times.  Basically, he was a situational pass rusher.  He got 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures.  He should improve, but for now, he is what he is.  Scourton gives us hope.  For a rookie (and thanks to Jones II's injuries, he was given more PT), he had 8 sacks--and held the edge.  He played at a first-round draft pick level.  He has the potential to become "that guy" in 2026. We lose Wonnum, who played nearly 700 snaps and amassed 3 whole sacks.  For a person raised a Gamecock, I would not be upset if we purged our roster of all South Carolina alumni.   However, I see it this way:  Wonnum was decent holding the edge, something Patrick Jones II and Scourton have demonstrated at a high level.  He is a liability, if you ask me.    Jones had 7 sacks one season in Minnesota and is known for his inside rushing ability--not what you would call a speed rusher.  I think Princely was a bit disappointing, but he was a bit raw.  Out of college, they described him as being a bit predictable.  I see no reason he will not improve in 2026 and become a situational pass rusher.   Basically, with Scourton and Princely expected to continue to develop and Jones II returning from injury, I think we need another veteran (if we can get a good one) to give us balance and depth.  A third developmental player is not ideal.   Draft:  OT, LB, WR, OL depth, S. Free Agency:  Edge, possibly a WR;  re-sign Mays, Cuhran, BC (??), and Nijman.  Let walk:  Wonnum, Scott, Dowdle.  I see about $20m per year after signing the OL depth.  Spend it on a veteran edge.   Players like Reddick (Tampa), Bosa (Buffalo), Khalil Mack (LAC) could be available on a one or two year deal in the $15m range.  We could splurge here, but I think a veteran situational pass rusher (depending on Jones II's back) is all we need while our 2 young guns develop.
