Saw this coming. Same for DeMarcus Lawrence. That might make Whitney Mercilus a cap casualty. I'd be interested.

I'm honestly not that big a Clowney fan.

This does however remind me that the list of good players who are up for free agency tends to be somewhat larger then the list of players who actually hit free agency.

I didn't have any interest in Clowney, but unfortunately it removes an option in FA for other teams shopping for a pass rusher. If we're trying to add a pass rusher via FA, it impacts us whether we were interested or not.

Yeah but it's also hard to let one of them go when they've finally started developing some chemistry/staying healthy. Would have wanted him but he would cost lots more than we can afford unfortunately.

These are the things that having a starting QB on a rookie contract allows you to do. At some point, teams are going to wise up and realize that you can't pay non-elite QBs $20M+ per season and still build a winning team. The Kirk Cousins of the world getting elite QB pay is a team crippler.

It also wouldn't shock me if the Texans use this to potentially shop him around.

and this is why Khalil Mack was traded and the Bears happily paid him QB money.

With the Eagles re-signing Brandon Graham, they are looking to trade Michael Bennett. I know a lot of you are not fond of him but he’s a solid DE with an affordable contract. $7.2M and $8M for the next 2 seasons. I think he’d be a great choice for a stop gap.

It was never very likely that the best pass rushers would hit the market, and so it goes.
