What FA WR do you want (and we can afford)

I'd Kick the tires on:

WR Jordan Matthews

WR Carlos Henderson (was big on him coming out of college)

WR Chris Hogan

Not so sure about Henderson, he seems like a problem waiting to happen. If you have AB or OBJ being diva receivers, that's one thing, but when it's your 4-5th guy, screw that!  I was big on Justin Hardy coming out of ECU, but he just never panned out. I'd rather keep Byrd.

Hogan would be interesting...

Golden Tate would be an awesome get to put with Samuel and Moore but thanks to years of disastrous contracts and two GM’s that don’t have the slightest clue he’s most likely way out of our price range.

Donte Moncrief is a more realistic option. Moncrief, Samuel and Moore would give us 3 guys with the ability to win deep on any given play.

We have our three guys -- Moore, Samuel, Wright. I don't see us getting involved in the FA market unless it's a ''possession'' type receiver (6'2''+) however I think the value is available on this type of player rounds 3 and on.

If Byrd returns as the return specialist all of our receivers aside from Smith who is 6' will be 5'11'' or shorter. While we have size inside with Olsen and Thomas I do think we are in the market for a big bodied receiver, and the rookie pay scale IMO is the best fit considering we have two veterans in Wright and Smith already.

Moncrief is another Funchess clone. That's why I'm surprised the Colts gave Funchess $13M. They already know how this goes.

I wanted CPAT, but now that he's gone, nobody really. I'd take a flyer on Kevin White or Devante Parker if there was nothing else to do.

Parker got extended in MIA. White is a walking injury. Pass.

Here are the remaining FA's at Receiver

Crabtree is about the only interest I have regarding a possession receiver. However I'd wager the price is too high. I think we'll go for one in the draft.

I see why you would say that, but I don't know about that. Moncrief is faster. And he has better hands. I think he gets more separation too (if anyone who has nextgen metrics or advanced statistics wants to confirm).

53.6, 55.3, and 53.9% catch rates over the last three seasons.

Funchess at 39.7 (LOL!), 56.8, and 55.7% over the same time period.

They've been very similar over the past two years. Moncrief was actually 60%+ his first two seasons. Not sure what happened.

I agree that Moncrief has better hands but it hasn't really led to better production. But according to advanced metrics, Funchess is the much better catcher of contested balls (53% vs. 19%) so for those of us who consider Funchess to be soft and a big WR who plays small we certainly wouldn't be very happy with Moncrief.

    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.
    • What happened to King? Was he a no show?
    • think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
