Best Left Tackle ever?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Since we're celebrating some hopeful improvements to our own offensive line, I find myself pondering a question:

For those who've been around long enough to see both (or anyone with a highlight reel formed opinion) if you had to pick a left tackle to build around, who you taking between...

Joe Thomas...

or Anthony Munoz?

And hey, if you've got an alternate suggestion, feel free to make your case.

Boselli played with immense raw power. Erik Williams was superb—Reggie White feared him.

Ogden is the best I’ve evaluated in my lifetime. Almost 6’10”, played with incredible agility and leverage, and would maul elite DL and LB in the run game. Paved the way for an underrated rushing attack in 2000. Tenacity, availability, leadership.

I thought Walter Jones was a great player. I don't think of Munoz in the same class as the best of today but he was playing in a very different league.

Walter Jones absolutely was a great LT.

I'd put the top 5 LTs of my lifetime (I'm 36, so let's say the last 25 years or so):

1. Jonathan Ogden

2. Joe Thomas

3. Walter Jones

4. Orlando Pace

5. Willie Roaf

Walter Jones is my personal choice but hard to wrong with anyone listed here

Yep, it's pretty much personal favorites and personal opinions when you're talking about the elite of the elite. Give me any of those five guys I listed and you couldn't beat the smile off of my face with a baseball bat.

Just give me Gross and Moton and I'd be thrilled to death

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pats win it all or at least get there. Maye is awesome.
    • Young quarterbacks Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and Bryce Young have led their teams to undefeated records since October.   Drake Maye has guided the New England Patriots to a 5-0 record in that period, with 2,285 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. Bo Nix has directed the Denver Broncos to a 5-0 stretch, throwing for 1,976 yards and 17 touchdowns, contributing to a 7-2 overall start. Bryce Young, in his second season, has led the Carolina Panthers to a 4-0 run since October, accumulating 1,390 yards and 11 touchdowns amid a 4-4 record.   Undefeated QBs since start of October (min. 4 starts)   Drake Maye 5-0 Bo Nix 5-0 Bryce Young 4-0   Bryce Young when asked about his mindset during game winning drives: "You don’t rise to the occasion you fall back to the level of your training."
    • 1. Cowboys-No explanation needed. 2. Rest of NFC South equally. If I had to pick I would say Falcons.    3. Eagles- Both of the games I have attended there the fans were so horrible. The fan base is so ridiculously misbehaved, I’ve never seen such immaturity. 4- Lions- I have cousins in Michigan that grew up Lions fans and they are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, as are all of their Lions buddies. The NFL has been lucky that Detroit has been in the cellar for its eternity.    5. Tie between Bears and Vikings. Both act like Steelers, Cowboys, Niners fans do with nostalgia and legendary seasons but neither have ever really had them. They act like they each won 5 super bowls in previous decades but never accomplished poo outside of Chicago in 85.
