Would you be willing to trade a 2020 pick for Rosen?

This is a football forum that asked a question about trading a 3rd round pick from more than a year away for a talented young healthy QB that can be insurance in the case that our QB cannot make it through a full season, and is no longer able to play football at a high level due to injury.

It's about controlling a player longterm at the most expensive position on the field for a 3rd that Hurney will use on a Gaulden type player.

If Cam can play, Rosen would never see the field.  If Cam can't make it through the season, we have a cheap guy on the roster signed long term that hopefully the next staff can groom to be the starter, or trade away at a future date for more resources.

As to dumpster diving through trash heaps..there are the Kalil's....and then there are the Delhomme's, Ginns, Olsen's....of our past.

Couldn't have said it better and at 4.3 for 3 more years? We're not talking about a 7th round scrub here. Rosen was many peoples #1 qb. Sorry Grier fans. He's in a whole nother league. He could be the next Peyton Manning for fug sake. God forbid if Cams arm goes south and this guy turns into an all pro. Huddle: Hell nah. Give me Gaulden!

Look, there's a lot of questions for Cam to answer going into this next season. Not a single one of the answers is made better by trading future draft picks to put a 1st rounder QB in the wings, particularly a guy that sounds like he's got an axe to grind when it comes to being an elite QB.

The best move for us might be the hardest one. Ride or die with Cam this season. We owe it to him first off. Secondly, we need to take the chance that his arm is recovered and we can retain a QB in his prime years. Thirdly, if that arm just falls off, we honestly don't need to be thinking of back-up plans to win. This team was built around Cam's capabilities, needs and preferences. If he isn't there, the shoe just won't fit some other princess coming off the bench. We would need to basically take another 2-14 season and draft our next franchise guy to build an offense around.

That sucks. It sucks for us fans, it sucks for Cam, it sucks for Ron and Marty and all of their teammates. Cam is entering the last parts of his contract and if he can't reach at least 85% of his old self then there's no real way we can keep him, pay the big bucks and expect to be a heavy duty competitor. If he can, then we re-up that contract and hopefully one day he can retire a Panther and a champ. In neither scenario can Rosen be of any help to us.

I think that the idea of acquiring any QB is "silly" (even though it's really not) simply because people are afraid of hurting Cam's feelings or their own feelings about Cam being the Panthers' QB until he's 45. Franchises aren't run like that. If you can, you prepare for the worst, while also preparing for the future, and you don't make the same mistake twice if you can help it. Individual seasons shouldn't be an exercise in playing Russian roulette.

Lol...no chance Arizona would give up him for anything less than a 2019 second, let alone a 2020 3rd or day 3 pick in 2019.  I wouldn't even be shocked if NYG (#17) or the Skins give up their first for him. Last year's QB class was pretty loaded. Rosen would be probably the #2 QB in this class.

There are teams more desperate for QB than us who will give up a good amount for him. The guy had absolutely zero help last year. People give up on young QB's way too fast, Rosen is a good passer and still has a great shot to be a very successful QB.

What if Lock falls to us at 16 and Hurney takes him? What would that say?

thats solid insurance for sure. Crazy yet, wouldn’t see this coming, what if the talked about insurance policy is us jumping up for Lock?

Hurney has done things like that before,... visits with others intensely as a smokescreen

I would say Cam Newton is more hurt than the fans know and the team believes hes never going to be the same QB again

If teams doctors say this then the team has to do whats best for the the team

but dont draft a guy at 16 if you believe Newton will be healthy and be the Qb for years to come because "just in case"

Not waste picks on Rosen that's for sure ..

I agree

If Cam Newton had the year Rosen had as a rookie he would be labeled a bust and no one would want to trade for him

Some people on this board said  Watson was not that good  after his rookie season  but Rosen is some how the next big QB?

Any athletic QB's in the draft who could be available in later rounds?

I would love to get a project QB who can do the stuff Cam does in the run game. Maybe we can use him instead of Cam on those run situations and protect Cam from more hits.

Athletic running QB would be the route I go. Maybe we get lucky and he develops as a passer.

Otherwise QB shouldn't even be an option because a passing QB is not going to see the field in the near future if Cam bounces back and likely wont be a factor if Cam goes down because a passing QB in the later rounds is much more likely to be a 3rd string type QB.

Athletic QB's should be our focus.

That would say that Hurney and company thinks that Cam is done (or possibly that they think another direction is warranted for other football reasons). That would be bad money for any other reason  in my mind.
