Well, I feel much better about the Burns pick now

When he took over the play calling for the defense you could see a vast improvement.  (a little too late) Switching 3-4 and 4-3 causes offenses problems with execution.

We don't have to go to one or the other.  I like the fact that we are getting players that can play multiple positions.

Rivera will either go out in a flame or end up an innovator of NFL defenses.   His name could be mentioned  in the same breathe as Jimmy Johnson, Buddy Ryan and Dick LeBeau.

Dude?

Since Ron has gotten here we have averaged out to 16th in the league in points allowed, and 12th in yards allowed.

He knows defense, but he's not that great at it compared to the guys you mention.

I don't NOT like Burns, I just don't think his playing the majority of his snap off the LT's shoulder with his hand in the dirt is a recipe for his future success.

That's why I at first didn't like THE PICK.

He likes Burns if I had to guess, he doesn't like pairing him up with a dinosaur who will revert to his instincts and just trot him out there as a 4/3 defensive end, where he will likely not be able to hold up.

Ron will need to be creative to get the most out of Burns....and creativity isn't one of Rons strong suits.

Whooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Marty 2.0 is fire!

Did my research, love the picks, love the testicular fortitude to trade up and snag a 1st round (talent)LT.

Ron is calling the defense going forward and when doing so is on par with Sean Payton. This D will be nasty.

With the Christian Miller selection, there is NO DOUBT in my mind now that we'll be running a vast majority of our defensive sets from the Base 3-4.

Both Burns and Miller fit perfectly into that defensive set and both have a very good chance to be impact players in it.

Still bummed about the 2nd and 3rd rounds though.

P.S. If we end up running the majority of our defensive sets from the Base 4-3 defense, then my thoughts on the Burns/Miller picks are the exact opposite.  As dumb as I think Rivera is, even I don't think Rivera could be *that* dumb.

P.S.S. Could he?  SCARY.

Pretty much confirmed by Bill on Twitter that team is moving to a 3-4 defense. They just down played it by saying they were going to a multi front.

I had no problem with the Grier pick. I still scratch my head on the Little pick. Very risky. Could pan out though and if it does, Hurney is a damn genius.

For some reason...I have a good feeling about Little.  Our OL coach worked miracles last year with scrubs.  With his help I think Little will be very good.

On the flip-side, how come said Miracle Worker could do nothing with Baby Khalil?

My answer?  More often it comes down to the ability and motivation of the player himself.  Regularly depending on "miracles" is a bad plan.

Me too.  I have to admit that since I hadn't watched him play myself, I kind of dismissed him early on when so many here labeled him as not being all that good.  But since he was drafted, I have gone back and done some more research, and I am more of the mind that he can be a very good left tackle.

That fact that Ole Miss was so pass happy and he only gave up 23 pressures makes me excited for what he brings in the passing game.  And on the flip side, it makes sense that his run blocking is considered the area he needs to improve the most.

Usually, when schools are so dominant in one phase, the players don't put as much work in the other aspects.  Coaches tend to put more emphasis on the area the offense focuses on.  As a result, Little probably wasn't coached up as much as he probably should have been in the run game at Mississippi.

I just think with some focused training and general technique work, he can be a special LT for us.

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
