Sees "played in 15 games past year" and thinks hmmm... he can't be THAT terrible. Then thinks back to some of the players who have appeared in 15 games for us in the past... oh yes he can.

Fair and Balanced remark. I knew you had it in you. Ha!

okay but can he play FS

I think we are all going to be frustrated by how long it takes the team to sign another safety, although I do think it happens even if it comes down to final cuts.

The team usually only keeps 4 safeties, and for better or worse, 3 of those spots are going to Reid, Gaulden, and Colin Jones unless there is an injury.

I think Rivera is determined to give Corrion Ballard, Cole Luke, Damian Parms, and Kai Nacua a chance for the final spot.  And yes I had to look at the official roster to even know who the other safeties were.

One thing that does give me hope from the past is that Tepper is not going to stand pat when the season is getting ready to begin if we don't upgrade the position.  I think he is willing to give Rivera the chance to show one of these guys deserve a roster spot, but Tepper isn't going to be content with having subpar safety depth if there are FA guys who could help.

The Panthers have waived UDFA guard Brendan Mahon as the corresponding move to signing CB Javien Elliott. Marty Hurney was really high on Mahon as a UDFA last year and Mahon had a great camp - he also had a concussion late in the 2018 season and finished the year on IR.

Corresponding move to the Javien Elliott signing for the Panthers is to waive G Brendan Mahon. Tough for the UDFA lineman who finished the 2019 season on IR with a concussion after battling his way onto the roster during training camp.

Surprised they cut him this early on given that he made the team last year.  Would not have been surprised if he didn't make the team this year as I hope we have better depth.

Makes me think they are serious about using Darryl Williams primarily as a guard and for tackle depth and keeping another pure tackle.

We usually keep 10 offensive lineman.  Matt Paradis, Trai Turner, Tyler Larsen, Greg Van Roten, Taylor Moton, Greg Little, Darryl Williams, and probably Dennis Daley are locks.  That's 8 spots.

Paradis, Turner, Larsen, Van Roten are interior guys

Moton, Little, Williams, and Daley are tackles (at least by current designation)

Still have at least 1 interior spot left, maybe two

Or with all the TE's we currently have on the roster, maybe we will keep 4 (more 2 TE sets) and only keep 9 offensive lineman

Sorry for the Bucs twitter.

Would be nice if this pans out for us.  Haven't had too much look signing ex-Bucs, but I expect that changes with McCoy and hopefully Elliott too.

That was a nice play, albeit not a great decision by Cam.

Regardless, it's one play in a game than Elder has ever made, who was our current backup nickel by default.

One question. Why it is a problem if we try and turn a corner into a safety? Usually as a corner slows down and loses a step teams turn them into safeties as it doesn't take as much athleticism to play safety as it does press corner for example.  Seems to me it makes sense to interchange a free safety and corner and have guys who can do both. I think it takes experience in the position more than superb skills. If anything tackling should be a primary concern.

I will take the bait on this one.

We have tried to turn corners into safeties and it hasn't worked out too great so far.  Why not just get a guy who actually wants to be a safety?  We have tried the corner to safety thing, let's try the just a safety thing.

    • it helps that Bryce and Tmac worked out a bit this off-season before the draft and are familiar with each other's game from way back.  Sure Bryce put in a good word for him to the coaching crew ahead of time That california connection goin' work, I hope
    • Sign but make it mostly incentive driven contract
    • My biggest problem is I think the players he likes don't really work in the modern NFL.  You mentioned the wr room being a lot better, is it?  It has the potential to be.   Last year when we traded up to get Legette, they said they traded up to take him specifically because he was a true X receiver.   Now this year they take TMac because they say he is and that XL was out of posisition last year.  Im not sold on Tmac yet just like I wasn't sold on XL last year.  If TMac isn't a lot better than last XL was last season then that's back to back first rounders in one position that would still need a huge amount of work.  Hopefully Tmac is what everyone seems to think he will be, I'm just not so sure, but them declaring XL was a true X receiver after the draft last year and what they're saying now should at least give you pause about their receivers evaluation because it means they definitely made a mistake one way or another.
