Thomas stood out today because he got more reps. He’s made the most of his opportunities all camp. He’s missed a couple of blocks, but that’s not uncommon. Overall, he’s improved in that area.

As a pass catching TE, you can move 80 around and create matchup problems. You can play him the slot, or he can play on the line with his hand in the dirt. You can flex him out wide—Olsen also does this quite a bit.

He can outpace DB’s. It’s fun to watch him in open space. Doesn’t shy away from contact.

Panthers' camp observations: 1. Seventh-round draft pick Jordan Scarlett re-aggravated lower back tightness that will keep him out of Thursday night's preseason opener at Chicago; 2. Backup tight end Ian Thomas, who stood out at practically every practice a year ago as a rookie, has been relatively quiet until today when he caught multiple big passes with starter Greg Olsen getting the day off; 3. DE Efe Obada was back after two days off to handle a personal issue. He even took a few snaps with the first team. 4. Kyle Allen continued to work ahead of Will Grier and will get the start at quarterback against Chicago with Cam Newton already ruled out; 5. Right tackle Taylor Moton took what coach Ron Rivera called a "bump'' that won't impact him playing on Thursday.

Sigh...7th rounder Jordan Scarlett?  Come on man!

What I saw Sunday was that any time a ball got thrown to him, it stuck in his hands. I haven't heard anything to the contrary at all this year.

That is exactly what happened to Scarlett. I saw him at fan fest hobble out of a scrum pile after he ran the ball.  Was limping.  But then he pulled his shirt up for a trainer to look at his back.  I think he got speared.  While not ideal that he isn’t playing tomorrow it’s not a serious injury I think.  Should be ready be week 2 preseason game.

Nope. Thank goodness, lol.

That was this guy:

He’s played tackle before. Is listed as a guard.

Whew. Thank goodness it was just some random camp body.

That's always the catch 22 of camp. Whenever any player or unit is looking really good it usually also means that the opposing player or unit is probably looking really bad.
