Kicker?

Could this guy possibly be a Butker No.2? I mean Gano is good, but we need to start building a replacement.

Doubt it. Butker was good enough to get drafted. It's fairly uncommon for kickers to be drafted with roughly one per year getting drafted (there's been less than 25 drafted since 2000). So since he was actually drafted it's probably fair to say that Butker was an elite kicker prospect. Slye was a 72% kicker in college. The NFL average has been right around the 85% mark for the past five straight seasons. Butker had about the same average in college, but he jumped up to 88% in his final season and that's what got him drafted. Slye's best season was 78% and it was actually 68% in his final season.

In short, Slye is a complete longshot as an NFL kicker and has no chance to make a roster unless he has improved dramatically. With that said, he's got a helluva leg. He posted a video back when he was in college of him making a 70 yarder during an indoor practice session.

Guy named Joey Slye out of Va Tech. Been on the Bucs and Giants rosters as well. Other than him being Va Tech's all-time leading scorer, I know nothing.

VA Tech’s all time leading scorer? That’s not really much to brag about. VA Tech is one of the most overrated college FB programs out there.

Was in his bio.

Agreed, Frank Beamer could win a lot of games..... until they played a ranked team.

He converted all 13 of his field goal tries with a 100% conversion rate that led all FBS kickers with at least 12 attempts. Fitzgerald was also perfect on his 14 extra points. He will compete with Matthew Wright for the Panthers’ kicking job in training camp. Harrison-Hunte went undrafted despite a strong showing at the Combine. He’s an older prospect who will turn 25 by the start of his rookie year, but he had just one season of sustained production at SMU after five years at Miami. Still, he earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2024 with 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks and will push for a roster spot in Carolina as an athletic interior disruptor.   more at the link https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/05/panthers-sign-19-undrafted-free-agents
