Rodrigue: Don't expect a big trade

From The Athletic's trade deadline primer (Link)

Team needs: Tackle depth, depth at cornerback and safety.

Why they might make a move: I can’t see Carolina making a blockbuster trade before the deadline, but they could certainly stand to shore up some depth at corner, safety and at left tackle where injuries have left their roster a little thin. Rookie Dennis Daley is about to get his third start at left tackle on Sunday, and while he’s playing well, the Panthers are one bad hit away from an offensive line catastrophe. Carolina could also be looking to stock up on draft picks.

Who to keep an eye on: DT Vernon Butler. The former first-round pick has played well in recent weeks but has underwhelmed in his previous three seasons. Trading Butler becomes less likely now that Carolina has placed Kawann Short on injured reserve, but if a team offered a few good draft picks for him, they might be tempted.

and yet the only position we've been linked to is indeed WR.  Not sure if it's been confirmed or just speculative.

Well, technically there's that position LG was hinting at :)

Pretty sure it's all been speculation. I tend to agree with Rodrigue that if there is anything at all, it'll be depth related. And I'm not really even expecting anything there.

Person had his own take in a separate article and he believes we'll stand pat.

This isn’t breaking news, can’t remember the last time this team made a big time trade

The Kelvin Benjamin trade wasn't that long ago.

Granted, that was treating somebody away and we didn't even initiate it, but it did happen at the last minute and nobody saw it coming.

how nice is it to be approaching the deadline and being able to say "a little depth at  a couple of spots would be nice, but we're gonna roll with the guys on 4 game win streak."

Not to be a downer, but didn't we also have similar thoughts this time last year?

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
